We use it at work and in fact I don’t have enough great things to say about it. For distributed, complex energy systems and needed to track a real-time view of what’s going on, Datadog is the best that I’ve experienced. For instance, I use it to monitor temperature and pressure in our infrastructure, automatically alerting my team to anything out of the ordinary so we can act on it pre-emptively and not let downtime or safety issues occur. It’s also a fantastic tool for analyzing historical trends which can help us ensure we are operating efficiently and that we can make data-driven improvements fast.Datadog is not as appropriate when you have the cost containment as one of your main drivers, especially if you are dealing with really high volume of logs or need to store data for long periods your costs can go up pretty fast and sometimes are hard to predict. It’s also not the ideal solution for situations when deploying agents is complicated and when more advanced security analytics, such as full SIEM or SOAR capabilities, are required, as its security features are more basic than that of dedicated platforms.
