Intuitive & Powerful - Helps support a scrappy FP&A team

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Quickbooks Online doesn't have a robust or flexible budget capability, and filling that gap is what led me to Cube. I'm able to fully house budget and forecast scenarios, run reports and analytics, all within Cube. It's easy to shift a couple parameters, hit update, and refesh your report in the same place to run different scenarios. I tend to use it more frequently than the accounting software's built in reports, and now I've extended its capabilities beyond just budgets and into revenue and payroll. We tie all these things together to go beyond budgeting and into forecasting, planning, etc.

Pros

  • Intuitive - it acts as an extension of programs you're already familiar with, Excel and Sheets. There's no programming language to learn, no complicated portals to work within. If you don't know BI, you don't need to learn it. You can "Cube-ify" your existing spreadsheets, or build from the ground up. The functionality is similar to the way pivot tables work, so it's intuitive to learn and use.
  • Powerful - It wrangles all our different streams of data from different places and you're able to control it with a few clicks from an Excel sidebar
  • A huge shout out to the support team as well. I always have a dedicated rep at hand for help (what's up Riley!); the support articles are genuinely useful, which is refreshing for finance software; & they're always looking for product feedback to help adapt the roadmap to what's actually needed.

Cons

  • The only flaw that I find is something they've communicated that they're constantly working to improve, which is speed to load or fetch data. It can be time consuming to update and process a bunch of different reports. However, some important caveats: some of the lag is due to the way our company structure is set up; I have been able to re-design/architect my reports/sheets with speed in mind & to make things more efficient, and that's gone a long way; Cube has already improved the speed of fetching noticeably since I first got setup. I expect it will only continue to improve until it's no longer even noticeable.

Likelihood to Recommend

1) The budget process. In QBO the budgeting capability is non-existant, unless you like manually typing in every scenario and not being able to budget by class. Cube houses my budget/forecast scenarios & lets me view and analyze by my company's preferred data points; department, GL account, vendor, & sales campaign. I'm able to run monthly budget variance reports and plan for the future with ease.
2) We've begun using Cube to help analyze profitablity by sales job. We've never had such easy access to this type of info in the past, so this is a benefit I can directly attribute to Cube.
3) We're beginning now to use an integration with our payroll software to work on headcount planning and payroll analysis.

Time Saver for FP&A work!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cube has helped simplify our monthly, quarterly, and annually FP&A work. With Cube we are able to bring together various data points from various sources and combine the data with ease. I love how much time Cube has saved us with our monthly BvA reporting. Our prior process use to be so manual now we have automated most of the manual work. Cube is also very affordable FP&A solution!

Pros

  • Integrating various data sources to one point
  • Custom Reporting
  • Works great with Google Sheets and Excel

Cons

  • While the custom reporting feature is amazing. It takes some time to wrap your brain around how to build the reporting and pull the data into your spreadsheet.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is great for start ups that are growing their Finance department and need a software solution to help eliminate manual work related to FP&A work like Budgeting, BvA, and Forecasting. This product is so helpful to have and saves my company a lot of time and money!

Cube is awesome when it's working!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cube helps our department summarize and report on financial and non-financial items across our organization. I specifically use cube most for reporting budget-vs-actual performance for balance sheet items and use cube to create streamlined and quick reports that are provided to executive leadership. Our team has also used cube to create the budget for the current year, and Cube was very helpful in collecting disparate data from executives and combining that data into a master budget model.

Pros

  • Data Accessibility
  • Financial Reporting
  • Ad-hoc analysis

Cons

  • Technical reliability
  • Consistency with functionality

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube, when it is working as intended, is a good product. It has streamlined many of our reporting / budget processes and has allowed our small team to scale with a rapidly growing company. I often find myself remarking on the great potential of what we can do with the tool. However, our team has ran into some technical issues during both the initial setup phase and during our ongoing performance that have really slowed down our processes and caused a few headaches along the way. I want to emphasize that the customer support team has been great when these things happen, and we have always found a solution at the end. It can just be frustrating when an identical task can take the system less than 10 minutes some times and more than 12 hours other times. It is also important to note that our team emphasizes looking for opportunities to maximize the functionality of the tool, so I could see another customer with a more basic use case not experiencing these issues. I have a lot of trust in the development team at Cube to continue to improve the product and reduce these road bumps going forward.

Great for monthly financial reporting but difficult to incorporate entire forecasting and scenario planning with!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cube helps our Company prepare budgets and review operating plans as well as recent company performance. Cube has been super helpful in the monthly and quarterly financial reporting that we do, especially after we integrated QBO into the platform, allowing us to easily pull actual data into Cube. We are also in the process of using cube for forecasting and planning purposes. However, due to an initial difficulty with uploading and integrating our operating model into Cube format, this process has taken a little longer than expected.

Pros

  • Cube makes monthly reporting of financial information super easy and automatic!
  • Cube makes budgeting and planning across departments and teams seamless!
  • Cube makes performance analysis and budget vs. actual analysis useful.

Cons

  • The report creation could use some ease of use improvements as not making certain labels / associations with Cube is sometimes an issue.
  • Uploading and integrating an entire operating model to complete forecasting and scenario planning analysis is a very manual and potentially painful process.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube is great for monthly reporting and company performance analysis, however, it can be slightly difficult to use when looking to do entire forecasting and scenario planning analysis. The integration process for our operating model has taken some manual effort and it has not been the most straight forward process.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize Cube Planning for monthly Budget vs Actuals reporting, annual/quarterly updates to Budget & Forecasts, and plan to utilize for more robust resource planning moving forward. Exporting to sheets or excel empowers department heads to have more control and visibility into the process. Cube Planning enables finance team to quickly post updates and visualize changes in real time.

Pros

  • Integrate into multiple softwares and platforms
  • Enables admins to quickly adjust forecasts to be shared with stakeholders

Cons

  • Would love if Cube Planning provided boiler plate templates so each model does not have to be built from scratch

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube Planning is great for monthly reporting of budget vs actuals, maintaining schedules & ad-hoc tasks. Cube Planning may not be the best tool for ASC 606 compliance but excited to see this improve.

Transformative FP&A Tool

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cube Planning helps us move away from performing budgeting and forecast in Google Sheets (which could become slow and unreliable on a larger scale). Team collaboration is achieved, cross-functional collaboration could be done at ease with proper access control and audit log. Customization of the product can be done at a certain extent as well, with great input and help from Customer Support team. The product is based on Excel and G-Sheet, so it's super user-friendly and agile.

Pros

  • Integration with Tableau and semi-automated integration with Netsuite Accounting System
  • Data Exporter provide access to cleaned data, acted as a source of truth
  • Transformative our Headcount planning, from previous 5-hour process to 20-minute.

Cons

  • Still need to manually import transactions from Netsuite Accounting System
  • Sometimes the software does not recognize pre-built Range properly
  • Missing actualizing function (copy Actuals for the months that have been actualized) into the Forecast

Likelihood to Recommend

Very suitable for company at small and medium size, that require agile scenario analysis with quick turnaround for decision making purpose.

Benefit of automation and simplification

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Cube Planning for financial reporting as well as forecasting. We upload various budget versions at beginning of the year and then we track our actuals against those in order to evaluate our financial position. Cube saves us a lot of time when it comes to transitioning actuals from QBO to our financial reports.

Pros

  • Integration between Cube and QBO
  • Ease of us of Cube in Excel or Google Sheets
  • White glove customer service

Cons

  • The only area where I find it a bit difficult is that Cube is very sensitive and it won't pull information in if one thing is off. However, I also completely understand why that is so.

Likelihood to Recommend

The tool’s greatest benefit lies in its ability to automate and simplify complex budgeting and forecasting practices. It is best suited if you have a lot of data that needs to be organized in different ways. Cube basically acts like data storage which allows you to pivot this data based on the analytics that you need.

An easy-to-use, intelligently designed, lightning fast product at an unbeatable price.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cube Planning for Financial Reporting, Budgeting, Forecasting, and Financial Planning and Analysis. Cube helps us answer questions about actual performance compared with budget, what are the key drivers and changes happening within the business impacting revenue and expenses and cash flow, and helps provide us with a baseline to launch projections from.

Pros

  • Import/Export of data for quick implementation and targeting data issues for correction.
  • Collaboration via add-ons with Excel and Google Sheets for sharing and versioning.
  • Time intelligence and well-built accounts and formulas to ensure numbers are always accurate and flexibly applied.

Cons

  • Needs a visualization module in my opinion.
  • Perhaps the capacity for rolling forecasting and/or machine learning methods.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cube Planning is excellent for those using Quickbooks (we currently use this), NetSuite, or Sage (we will transition to one of these soon). It was very intelligently designed to be flexible with dimensions, accounts, and time and text intelligence. Accounts can be created by reference to a GL or as a formula. The tool itself is lightning fast, which really facilitated a quick implementation by validating and identifying issues quickly and being able to upsert the correct numbers just as quickly.
