Control-M Automation at its best!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Control-M runs all of our product, sales and distribution for all of North America. We typically run over 2,500 to 3,000 tasks per day. This keeps the business running accurately and efficiently. Without the use of Control-M's automation our IT Department would be tasked with executing multiple scripts/tasks all day and night. That would NOT be efficient!

Pros

  • Batch Automation
  • File Transfer
  • Efficient
  • Successful
  • Customer Focused

Cons

  • How-To documents
  • Self-Help documents

Likelihood to Recommend

If you have to run a business that needs to be operational 24x7x365 then Control-M is the product for you. The ease of the product into your everyday environment is absolutely seamless. I love to use the expression set it and forget it because once you have it you will be wishing that you had it sooner.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have 50,000 defined jobs and execute about 500,000 jobs a day. Control-M integrates all legacy products with bought applications and third-party services. We often use AI and restful web service calls for this purpose. We recently implemented Control-M self-service and granted specific developers access to take action on jobs. The next step will be the introduction of WCM.

Pros

  • AI provides a workaround to be able to monitor asynchronous web service calls.
  • Selfservice gives users a complete overview of their job flow and the current status.
  • it's easy to access that output of a job that failed.

Cons

  • Certificate on all levels: Each agent uses different keystrokes for different functions, such as AI, web service calls, and MFT.
  • It's really hard to manage these keystrokes.
  • Trust stores, in case control-m, act as servers; it should be simple to implement certificates from a corporate CA.
  • Some functions must be performed in the fat client, while others can only be performed through the web interface. This should be streamlined as soon as possible.

Likelihood to Recommend

Control-M has been running stable for more than ten years. We have never had complete downtime, and running on an HA solution allows us to minimize service windows.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Control-M is currently used by a major division of the company.

Pros

  • Consolidates scheduling for multiple technologies in one place
  • Provides visibility and monitoring across all jobs
  • Basics needed to create typical process flow are easy to learn
  • Company aggressively transforming and upgrading the tool
  • Tool allowed to securely separate "tenant" applications and their development teams

Cons

  • The peak use pricing model compares unfavorably to the typical use model (that averages across type). It penalizes organizations with an uneven workload.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for orchestrating processes across technologies and dealing with complex scheduling situations.
