What is Cloudimage?

Cloudimage offers a way to optimize and accelerate images for the web.

Cloudimage automates the transformation and optimization of images on the fly and accelerates their distribution via the Content Delivery Network (CDN). Cloudimage helps web pages to become faster and lighter, to improve both SEO and the user experience of the web or mobile application.

Built by Scaleflex, the Cloudimage plugin helps users to:

  • Optimize images on the fly; image URLs will be rewritten and replaced with Cloudimage URLs

  • Accelerate images via rocket-fast Content Delivery Networks around the world

  • Implement the Cloudimage Responsive Images plugin into code automatically, enabling responsive images on any web or mobile application

How does Cloudimage work?

  • Cloudimage downloads and caches: On the first image load, the image is taken from the user's server into its own cache. Cloudimage can be used as an image store as well.
  • The Cloudimage service crops, resizes, cuts, watermarks, colorizes, rotates, remove background and compresses images. Cloudimage converts images into WebP for even more size reduction.
  • Cloudimage aims to apply the best compression for the maximum level of byte reduction imperceptible to the human eye.
  • Images are delivered anywhere around the world via Cloudimage's multi-CDN architecture.

How to implement Cloudimage?

  • Libraries: Javascript (React, Angular, Vue, NextJS) et Ruby Gem

  • Plugins: Magento, WordPress, Prestashop, Opencart, Sylius.

A fantastic image manipulation service

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We needed an image manipulation service for a free-to-use system that would get a fair bit of traffic, but we couldn't afford to pay an arm and a leg for a competitor, especially since the images themselves could easily be hosted on our servers. By just providing the manipulation service with a fairly simple method for linking to our own hosting, Cloudimage fits our requirements perfectly.

Pros

  • Image manipulation
  • Connecting to self hosted servers
  • Delivers images to the browser

Cons

  • More integrated hosting options

Most Important Features

  • Value for money
  • Simplicity
  • Works with existing hosting

Return on Investment

  • Time saved

Alternatives Considered

Cloudinary

Cloudimage is one of the products that you don't know you need, until you get it, and wonder how you did without it!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use CloudImage on our VueStorefront based eCommerce platform that uses a Magento backend. We have thousands of products, and CloudImage simplifies our image delivery to end customers. We need these images to be served quickly and without compression artifacts. Of all the issues we have had, image delivery, optimisation, and such has not been an issue with CloudImage at all.

Pros

  • Image Optimisation.
  • Localised CDN Delivery.
  • Image Compression.
  • Pre-made Software Integrations.

Cons

  • Pricing.
  • Intermittent Dashboard Issues.
  • Image resize traunches. So 100px windows of resizing rather than pixel-perfect rescaling to save on cache size/delivery volume.

Most Important Features

  • Image resizing.
  • Localised CDN delivery.
  • Lossless compression.

Return on Investment

  • Primary been a time saver!
  • Saves us rolling our own solution.
  • Increases conversion of the end user on average.

Other Software Used

Vue Storefront, Docker

A feature rich, scalable and well priced alternative to most image CDN's

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We were using another image CDN provider (not European) and really did not find a compelling offer from them after their huge price hike. Trying to go with a fast but European based provider, we found Cloudimage (French) to be very professional, with good onboarding, [and] plenty of precise settings to bend their solution to our exact needs. Cloudimage is very fast, pricing is based on real metrics, not arbitrary amounts. Support is reactive and friendly. Upgrades are detailed in blog posts every month.

Pros

  • Great world-wide CDN
  • Excellent image quality with extensive processing options
  • Competitive pricing with progressive tiers
  • Good defaults but well organized interface to configure everything precisely

Cons

  • Having tiers based either more on source cache / CDN bandwidth (for some persons)

Most Important Features

  • Images can come from any source, and this source is always hidden
  • Processing scales very well (you can reset cache and have images regenerated quickly)
  • Processing, watermarking, protecting, is precise and fast

Return on Investment

  • Same or lower cost as before and more possibilities than before
  • Using a GDPR respecting, European (French) based company
  • Using more features like watermarking, fallback image, precise 404 handling

Easy, quick & CDN images delivery !

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It was a solution to easily use CDN for images and the implementation was done with just an SQL request. So that was fitting our needs perfectly. The possibilities to resize images on the fly is also a must have of this solution and that’s why we recommend it obviously.

Pros

  • Resize images on the fly
  • Easy integration
  • Quick integration

Cons

Most Important Features
