Since we have many branches across the country, we use Cisco Secure Firewall to ensure that we standardize the security policies across. The tool integrates seamlessly with cloud platforms like AWS, ensuring consistent protection through features such as network segmentation, intrusion prevention, and application control everywhere.
We use Cisco Secure Firewall for network threat protection and it has been very reliable. It protects of networks by accurately detecting and blocking threats thanks to features such as malware defense, URL filtering, and enhanced application control. In addition, it comes AI equipped and is also able to decrypt TLS/SSl thus ensuring effective network protection.
Pros
It ensures no unauthorized access by blocking threats.
It effective, accurately, and quickly detects network threats.
I like ability to scan URLs as well as decrypting SSL/TLS.
It is a great tool for malware defense.
Cons
The interface is clunky.
Licensing costs are high.
Likelihood to Recommend
For network protection, Cisco Secure Firewall offers amazing features and I recommend it. From malware defense to URL filtering to fast detection of threats, it is the best for business use.
As main firewalls at Branches and DCs and also for VPNs. We are using it for security control, Web filtering, IPS and also malware protection. We are using multiple platforms from 1010s, series 1000, series 3000 and also virtual FTDs and ASAvs. We also use in convergence with AnyConnect VPN.
Pros
Access control
Layer 7 FW
Anyconnect VPN
Snort/IPS
Cons
Management - FMC
Licensing
Likelihood to Recommend
Larger companies which needs security compliance across the organization. Where is needed one single pane of glass for management.
Securing our systems and having Remote Access VPN capabilities
Pros
Remote Access VPN
Firewall blocking
Traffic separation/DMZ
Cons
Configuration Management using CLI for FTD
Geolocation blocking for ASA
Failures with FTDs crashing
FMC VMs crashing
Likelihood to Recommend
It is well suited for VPN access, and it is less appropriate for dynamic routing. We mostly use static routing on our firewalls. It is really good at DMZing traffic

We use it on the edge of our networks to protect and white specific ports and traffic into our more secure parts of the network. And we use them in conjunction with other products as well. So we've got that multilayered approach at the edge. Not all of it's Cisco, some of its other vendors, that's what we're doing.
Pros
It's very simple to configure. We like the user interface with it. It's good simple firewall functions, just being able to specify a range of ips on ports that you want to allow while blocking everything else. I mean it's a firewall. It does what it's supposed to do and it does it well.
Cons
I'd like to see it do a deeper packet inspection and have the facility to inspect packet flows. And almost like creating a digital signature on a match rather than individual rules and not just look at packet headers with regards to IPS type functions as well. But actually look at packet payloads. I've been able to create a rule based on some flow and the payload within those packets. I don't think it does that at the moment, but that'd be nice if it could do that.
Likelihood to Recommend
Well suited any edge kind of protection, which is obviously, again, what firewalls really used for. Less suited if you need more detailed protection, more granular, shall I say it's a better word, more granular protection. The ability to filter not just on IPS and ports, but a much deeper look at the packets and do that.

We use the FTD for establishing a hub and spoke VPN site-to-site architecture. The problem that we will to address is the separation of security data and the full control of access in an isolated distributed environment. The product is used as the anchor edge of the distributed nodes and establishing system specific VPN tunnels.
Pros
VPN configuration and easy troubleshooting
Policy configuration
management centrally or locally
Cons
standalone management
time for changes deployment
licensing of devices not accessing the internet
Likelihood to Recommend
Cisco Secure Firewall is well suited for environments that have access to the internet and a stable connectivity is considered on place. However, in isolated environments the firewall requires additional administrative efforts and most of its characteristics can not be leveraged. A method for updating the signatures of snort and the intelligence of the firewall using an out of band channel will be useful.

We use the product for Geosegmentation for countries like China, Brazil, etc. We use basic prefilter policies and snort, currently we are considering integrating automation a bit more. We use ftds in addition to palo alto devices, so interoperability and integration is quite important for us. So far, the solution works for us with no major issues.
Pros
Snort
Troubleshooting
Support
Cons
Officially supported automation
Simplification of Lina and Snort engines
Global find option
Likelihood to Recommend
Good: Wide troubleshooting possibilities from the cli, good and accurate vulnerability database, which we install on a monthly basis, decent Geosegmentation for our remote sites Not so good: GUI can be a bit slow, no global find capability, tough to remember which of the 3 terminals gives which options/commands
