Cisco Duo is predominantly utilized by organizations to implement multi-factor authentication (MFA) across a wide array of access points, including corporate networks, VPNs, and various applications like Windows logons. Reviewers consistently deploy it to secure critical servers and sensitive business data, thereby preventing unauthorized access and enhancing overall security posture. In TrustRadius reviews, its effectiveness in providing robust MFA and its straightforward integration capabilities with existing systems, such as Active Directory, are frequently highlighted as core strengths.
Reviewers also note the product's positive impact on cost reduction, specifically by lowering cybersecurity insurance expenses and decreasing support requests. However, some reviewers suggest areas for improvement, including expanding its feature set to encompass functionalities like password management or integrated VPN support. Concerns were also raised regarding occasional login speed and reliability issues related to network connectivity, particularly for Mac devices. Despite these points, the overall sentiment indicates that Cisco Duo is a valuable tool for bolstering organizational security.
Pros
Effective multi-factor authentication (MFA) across diverse applications and access points
Straightforward integration with existing systems, including Active Directory
Enhances overall security posture by preventing unauthorized access
Contributes to cost reduction by lowering cybersecurity insurance and support requests
Simple implementation and trouble-free ongoing use
Cons
Limited feature set compared to comprehensive security solutions (e.g., lacks integrated password management or VPN)
Occasional login speed issues reported by some users
Reliability challenges related to network connectivity during authentication attempts
Specific login control issues reported for Mac devices
Potential for challenging user adoption for less technically oriented users
I use Duo on a daily basis to sign into my corporate network and to authenticate my Cisco Secure Client connection.
Pros
Online authentication
Offline authentication
Cons
Network disconnects and time to live on authentication attempts

At an airport and connecting to public WiFi Duo has to timeout before prompting for an authentication. But I’m being nit picky because that delay is seconds.
Cisco Duo provides the organization added security for authenticating to corporate infrastructure as well as SaaS and cloud-based applications. Cisco Duo is also used as a form of employee identity verification adopted by our support team. From a end user experience standpoint, Cisco Duo provides a flexible 2FA experience by supporting push notifications, pass codes, among others.
Pros
Cisco Duo is extremely user friendly. No complaints whatsoever from employee community.
Cisco Duo provides complete visibility into employee mobile devices.
Cisco Duo provides necessary API endpoints to automate tasks.
Logs can be easily exported and ingested to SIEM.
Cons
Cisco Duo's geolocation can sometimes be off likely due to third party feeds. Improving the accuracy of endpoint or auth device geolocation would greatly improve security monitoring.
Better integration with Microsoft Azure. This is likely more of a Microsoft related issue but Microsoft Azure and Cisco Duo isn't seamless.
Likelihood to Recommend
Like any MFA solution, Cisco Duo works in many environments covering on premise and cloud based infrastructure. Integrates very well with pretty much everything like our firewall/VPN, SaaS applications, PAM, self service password management portal, among others. I really don't see where the product is less appropriate. Everywhere we want multi factor authentication, Cisco Duo seems to integrate pretty well with very little effort.

Increasing security with two factor authentication and removing the use of private authenticators (Google Authenticator) from users for websites or applications where authentication with 2 factors is enforced. In combination and with integration into our password Management Tool we were able to reduce the need of assistance from IT staff in this process.
Pros
Easy to handle phone app
Usable on Apple Watch
Fair pricing model on what is my use case
Cons
More native integration for well-known services like PayPal, this is better within Google or MS Authenticator
Likelihood to Recommend
Cisco Duo is well-suited in handling 2 factor authentication for online services, critical business accounts in the Internet like Amazon, Social Media and Cloud Applications which must not be compromised at any time. It also helps to protect our internal apps from unauthorised access.
Nothing to ask more from MFA functionality perspective

For example, in my organization we use PaloAlto firewalls with GlobalProtect clients. Duo MFA was easily integrated with PA and GlobalProtect to provide remote VPN access for 300 employees
We use Cisco Duo for MFA of Active Directory and other software/services that are used within the company. It allows us to require MFA for our servers, endpoints, and a variety of other platforms that we deem necessary to have MFA.
Pros
Provides a great user experience for MFA on Endpoints.
Offers multiple options for completing the MFA process from mobile apps to Yubikeys.
Allows for granular configuration based on each companies needs.
Cons
Documentation is oftentimes missing key information for proper implementation. This is circumvented by reading third-party guides or contacting support for additional details.
They do not push Fail-Closed as much as I think they should. Fail-Open is fairly trivial to bypass and it should be made known to the customer during setup how much this will affect overall security.
More vendor integration is something that is always craved by administrators. There are so many third-parties to integrate with.
Likelihood to Recommend
Cisco Duo is extremely well-suited for someone wanting to add MFA to an on-premise Active Directory environment. Some of the other vendors in this space do provide this feature, but they do not natively support it. One of the top competitors in this space requires signing up with another third-party service to make this integration possible. Less moving parts for something as crucial as this is a huge benefit and having only one vendor to point fingers at makes troubleshooting much simpler.

Duo has provided a necessary improvement to our security infrastructure by proving not only a 2 Factor Authentication option, but also a way to perform authentication features such as RADIUS and RBAC for our LDAP user base.
Duo is very important because of its closed source enablement, as well as its ability to tie into 2FA for other sites and services which allow it.
Pros
LDAP integration
2FA third party
User management
Cons
More support for third party apps
TAC ACS support
API support

Very well suited for transitioning Ms o365 from basic to 2fa. We used it for this.
Enhanced security for users and any data on your system or domain that requires logins.
Add an extra layer of security.
would be nice to see a standardized offsite offline method for 2fa logins
Duo is being used across the whole organization which encompasses four different business divisions for a total of between 350-375 employees. We use Duo as a part of our two-factor authentication when logging into our network from off-campus locations. This last year with the pandemic, the number of employees that were added to remote network capabilities increased by around 70% which meant more people were getting set up and using Duo. I have not heard of any problems and it has helped us maintain secure access to the network, which is vital in the industries we compete in.
Pros
It is simple to setup
On-click verification
Can have multiple two-step authentication connections at one time.
Cons
I can't think of any area that I would improve it.
The user interface is great, easily readable, and friendly. How do you improve on that?
The color scheme is generic, but not necessarily boring.

Duo is great if you really desire to secure your access to a network or website account through two-factor authentication. I actually use it personally as well to help secure my access to some of my social media accounts. I know that if I am using it to get approval for access, I am confident that I have a secure connection.
