Cisco Routers are considered the best Routers. [They] provide a lot in Routing & Throughput Services. I have used Cisco Routers for the configuration of Site to Site VPN for secure connection to our sub-branches, which provides a secure network over the organization. Also, it is used for providing DHCP options for access points and LAN users. Hence, it serves a secure connection and provides [the] best security on a network.

Pros

Throughput of the interface is excellent.
[It] supports multiple routing protocols.
[It] provides good bandwidth.
[It is] easy to configure.

Cons

It provides [a] limited number of ports. For multiple networks, we need to add extra interface.
[It is] costly compared to other similar products available in [the] market.

I would ask users [that] if [they were] looking for the most reliable and trustworthy router solution, then I will strongly recommend [they] go with the Cisco [8540 Wireless Controller]. We are using Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller across the whole organization as a router for ensuring the best wireless connectivity among all departments and all cloud resources. It has resolved most of our networking and cloud connectivity issues. It has also eliminated our issues related to bandwidth and uptime. It is providing us uninterrupted connectivity to our databases and other cloud resources at faster speeds and [with] ultimate security. Overall, we found it a very economical solution.

These routers are best in terms of security and network speed. This series of routers gives some of the best features, like high performance and high density. [They] provide excellent scalability and are also very good economically. They are designed and programmed in such a way that they won’t allow traffic from unwanted sources, like outsiders and cyber hackers.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller to centrally manage a WiFi network for a Smart City project in Portugal. It is being used by our research lab to measure mobility statistics and other parameters, besides providing free network access to the population in the area where the project was deployed (in a coastal region).

Pros

Easy to setup and deploy the wireless network.
Full control and customization of all Access Points.
Security features and multi-protocol support.

Cons

Price can be a little bit overwhelming for some organizations.
Some advanced configurations are not easy to grasp without support.
There could be some VPN solutions embedded by default.

Likelihood to Recommend

In case one needs to manage a complex network with a significant number of access points, Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller is an appropriate solution since it can handle well a large amount of nodes and allows a detailed and customized configuration of each one of the APs in an individual way. For a small number of devices, the price does not justify of use of such powerful solution.

We use the Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller at the organization level for wireless connectivity and data control. It is an exceptional tool with a lot of benefits and fits our needs well, as we have a large number of employees and APs to distribute and manage bandwidth among. Our Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller always perfectly achieves KPIs of benchmarked data distribution at high speeds with controllable bandwidth and 99.99% uptime.

Costly solution.
New and advanced products have been introduced by Cisco, so it is a little old now.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a very fine and reliable solution for organizations with a high number of APs and does its job very well in keeping things aligned and controlled for high-volume data traffic in most cases. If you are looking for a more advanced solution, Cisco has also introduced their latest model with some additional features, so it would be not suitable for those looking for the most advanced controller.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have been using Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller for a few months now for our employee's systems. Overall we think it is a solid product with a very fast connection. We are using this in the whole organization and this effectively solved many problems with our cloud connectivity with no major notable issues in the system.

[Cisco 8540 Wireless Controller] is great for medium to larger size businesses with a lot of employees as it provides high traffic usage in the businesses. The ROI for smaller businesses is too high for most uses. Fits well as it is more of an enterprise solution with almost no downtime. If you do have the money it is worth it for its superior features.

We are an outsourced IT company so we have multiple clients. We have about 3-4 of our clients that have Cisco 8540 Wireless Controllers and use other Cisco products as well. These clients use them companywide. One client in particular needed to have very solid wireless capabilities and when they upgraded to this model, they saw a much better experience.

Pros

Wireless capabilities
The security is very good
The integration to everything else is convenient for us as the IT professionals and for their organization.

Cons

Definitely need to have some guidance in learning the product
Configuration can be a little rough the first few times through, would definitely recommend professional installation and configuration

Likelihood to Recommend

For this in particular, it would not be an ideal setup for a smaller organization--it would be complete overkill. Definitely ideal for the larger settings. Wireless experience/connections in particular are the main needs that I see for clients moving to (or already using) this model.
