Chrome River Expense

Rating: 7 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Emburse Chrome River as our main system for travel and expenses. It is used to help create compliance to help guide users to be within company and government policies. This is used across departments to help their teams for specific preferences in approval quality assurance.

Pros

  • Compliance training
  • Approval tracking
  • Notifying user of errors

Cons

  • They could have a better system for government regulations and compliance
  • Faster resolution time for user requests
  • Better notify customers of how new products came help once they are available

Likelihood to Recommend

Compliance rules are great to better help users create accurate reports. The hotel features could be better to help with requirements by the US Federal policy within the JTR, FTR, and GSA.

Great Expense System

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Chrome River for expense reports, auditing and approving. Chrome river provides ease of use for those claiming business expenses whether you are in the office or on the road. You can access the system to review reports and approve submitted claims. Picture taking of the receipts is easy with the SNAP app and they match up with the credit card transactions.

Pros

  • Innovating always updating the system to keep it current
  • Help Desk support.
  • Reports to manage company spend
  • storage of all our files - never destroy

Cons

  • Support in different languages.
  • Tutorials not always easy to understand.
  • Understanding taxes in other countries better.
  • App for your Canadian customers

Likelihood to Recommend

Chrome River allows claimants to submit expenses in a timely fashion and reimburse promptly. Auditing of submissions is easy to do, and innovation of OCR technology takes some of the steps out of the process for the claimant. No paperwork to store and save, all done by Chrome River and is easily accessible.

Worst Reimbursement and Expense Reporting App on the Market; A+ for inefficient

Rating: 1 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

To track and report expenses, our company switched from American Express CC app, over to the Chrome River Snap App, about a year ago. The American Express App was intuitive, streamlined, and easy to use. Since expense reports are already painful, it's a good practice to provide users an expense reporting app that doesn't add drag to the activity that doesn't add revenue or profit to the company.

When we switched over to Emburse Chrome River for expense reporting about a year ago, it was like going back in time to the 1990s. The interface has no intuitive utility whatsoever. Navigating the app to construct expense reports, attaching receipts to credit card charges, itemizing, etc. are navigated via a disparate sequence of steps so terribly unintuitive that it motivates one to do expense reports as infrequently as possible. Once a month you have to re-learn how things work because of the mental anguish of the previous experience, thanks to the ability to compartmentalize unpleasant memories. The menu and navigation are about as hair-brained as it gets. I accidentally deleted a nearly completed monthly report while attempting to edit a line item inside the report. The result? The totality of the monthly report gets scrapped to correct a line item in the report.

I rate Chrome River Expense reporting App with an A+ for hair-brained, A++ for time-wasting, and A+ for misery unnecessarily inflicted on the user.

Pros

  • Powers on when you hit the icon.
  • Camera works on the App - but doesn't always upload.
  • The Chrome River name affiliation is not unlike Operating system "Adreno", "Chrome" used by google.

Cons

  • Interface is hairbrained, having zero logic what so ever
  • Navigation is completely unintuitive
  • User experience interface is the worst in its class
  • Too easy to delete a report when you intend to simply delete a line item in the report.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would prefer to give this a zero, but am not sure that is an option. The user interface is completely unintuitive, navigation is a disparate collection of selection sequences that make no sense. How can this possibly be a leading expense reporting App?

Emburse Chrome River--customize it to your needs

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Emburse Chrome River for all associates across all our US, Canada, and UK locations. We moved from paper to electronic and this was the best move. Our end-users feel that it is intuitive and easy to use once they have done a couple of reports.

Pros

  • Easy to use especially with the CR Snap app and taking pictures of receipts
  • Email approval for managers

Cons

  • The analytics are not to user friendly. The ad-hoc reporting is very complicated, as the headers do not clearly indicate what you are going to get in the report.
  • It would be nice is when you hovered over the "add expense" (plus with a circle) button, it told you what it does. End users have a hard time finding the e-wallet in their report when it doesn't automatically open.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is an easy solution to tailor to what you need.

Chrome River Review

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We migrated from a legacy IBM product to Emburse Chrome River several years ago. The Chrome River onboarding / startup team did a great job with getting the system configured for our environment. We have had very few issues with the application during the use at the company in the past several years.

Pros

  • Great job implementing the application.
  • The product runs itself.

Cons

  • Talking to someone at the helpdesk is not easy, they really prefer online interaction.

Likelihood to Recommend

We had two SAP systems and two HR systems at the time of install - some uses needed to approve across the two systems, and we were able to bring the systems together [through] Chrome River.

Moving from paper-based process to global harmonized digital and workflow-based process.

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Chrome River [EXPENSE] is today used in 5 countries and there in 10 entities in APAC and EMEA with more than 6,000 users. We went from a paper-based process to a global harmonized digital and workflow-based process. We are using pre-approval and expense reports and have installed a fully automated transfer / posting into SAP.

Pros

  • Upload of receipts with OCR
  • Credit card feed
  • Connection to Cytric travel and integration of travel data
  • Payment via vendor accounts in SAP
  • Easily to learn, no intensive training needed
  • Digital archiving

Cons

  • PDF report
  • Approval workflow
  • Auditor function
  • European legal requirements

Likelihood to Recommend

Pros:

Chrome River [EXPENSE] is an easy to learn travel expense tool. Training effort is limited. Compliance rules are guiding the users to correctly upload and enter receipts, which are already uploaded and recognized via OCR during the business trip. Uploading can easily done via APP, mail or receipt gallery. There is no need for storing paper. Chrome River [EXPENSE] is supporting digital archiving. Interfaces to SAP are working smoothly and the effort for installing was minimal.

Con:
We would prefer, if the accountants / auditors could change / adapt the expense report by themselves. Entries / information for which traveler's are not the experts like expense types, VAT or other income related stuff should be possible to change without return and starting the approval process once again. Standard PDF report gives room for improvement.

For us, Chrome River is ideal

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Chrome River EXPENSE is used across the corporation for expense reports approval. It has helped make the expense reporting system far more efficient and effective than our previous in-house solution. We use it for both credit card direct payments as well as individual reimbursements. The features of breaking down expenses into taxes, additional fees, etc. really makes the system easier and more accurate.

Pros

  • The mobile app does a particularly good job at making receipt uploads effortless
  • They constantly add new integrations with travel providers such as Uber and rental car companies
  • The expense approval process workflow makes tracking your report very easy

Cons

  • Support is a little unresponsive, especially now that you have to go through their support application instead of just sending an email

Likelihood to Recommend

For our mid- to large-sized corporation, the solution is ideal. Users do not have to have a corporate card to use the system, so it is great for both our corporate staff and our mill workers who can use it for safety and tool reimbursements. It interfaces well with American Express and our Mastercard credit card vendor.

Chrome River in a global company

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Chrome River [EXPENSE] in the US, Canada and Mexico. It has streamlined our expense reporting process to 1 system and has given greater global visibility of expenses through reporting and approvals. We were previously using different systems, including paper processing in Mexico.

Pros

  • Ease of flexibility - able to configure items as an admin or through Chrome River
  • Very robust reporting options
  • Able to support different approval paths and admin security roles.

Cons

  • Our Mexico location has had issues since implementation. It is an area that is not as strongly supported.

Likelihood to Recommend

I feel Chrome River [EXPENSE] is well suited for any company that operates in the US and Canada. I am unsure how strong Chrome River [EXPENSE] is internationally, given some of the other issues we have experienced with Mexico.

Overall, it has mobile capabilities that are very easy to use, credit card interface for charges, receipt capture that feeds to the account. It has worked very well for our employees.

Another Chrome River Review

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently roll out Chrome River EXPENSE to employees that have a corporate card. However, we are in the process of rolling the tool out to all employees. Chrome River EXPENSE has addressed a number of issues but for the employees, it has increased the speed for out of pocket reimbursements. Another problem it has addressed easily is unsubmitted transactions.

Pros

  • Chrome River EXPENSE provides lots of "help" tools from video to written.
  • CR SNAP has been an awesome tool for our users to get receipts into the tool so expense reports can be easily completed.
  • Chrome River EXPENSE can be customized based on your companies needs.

Cons

  • Receipt OCR has still been challenging, especially since tips are handwritten on to the receipt.
  • Ad Hoc reporting is still challenging, videos on creating different reports would be great.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you are looking to improve the employee expense reimbursement process, Chrome River is definitely an option to be considered. It is a very easy tool to learn to use, and has a lot of add-on features.

Where Chrome River would not be suited is for very small companies, as the pricing per user could be greater than the ROI.
