What is BuzzSumo?

BuzzSumo is an influencer marketing platform focused on influencer location, author reports, content analysis for locating trends, and domain comparisons, useful for competitor analysis. The analysis engine is intentioned to track and optimize content marketing efforts. BuzzSumo was acquired by Brandwatch, which is now a Cision company (acquired February 2021).

BuzzSumo is a must-have pro tool for serious PR coordinators

Pros

  • Monitors for client PR placements and notifies via email and Slack alerts
  • Helps us research potential journalists writing about the topics relevant to our clients
  • Displays trending web and social content clearly with relevant metrics
  • Allows us to view what's working for our clients' competitors in the media

Cons

  • We've been wanting them to offer an affiliate program for years as we've sent much business their way and would appreciate a chance to participate in that success.

Return on Investment

  • The positive ROI is that we're able to quickly find placements, alert all relevant teams and begin promoting them (often before Google Alert even catches on).
  • The negative impact is that it's another significant recurring bill in an era where many agencies and clients are tightening their budgets or bringing PR and content work in-house.

  • I feel It want to do everything without any focus on a specific task. Therefore its functionality can create confusion for the new users.
