What is Brivo?

Brivo offers mobile, cloud-based access control for commercial real estate, multifamily residential, and large distributed enterprises. Their product ecosystem and open API provide businesses with digital tools to increase security automation, elevate employee and tenant experience, and improve the safety of all people and assets in the built environment. Having created the category over twenty years ago, the vendor states that their building access platform is now the digital foundation for a large collection of customer facilities, boasting users among more than 23 million users occupying over 300M square feet of secured space in 42 countries.

Brivo aims to provide the best technology and support to property owners, managers, and tenants as they look for more from buildings where they live, work, and play. The Brivo product suite includes access control, smart readers, touchless mobile credentials, visitor management, occupancy monitoring, health and safety features, and integrated video surveillance, smart locks, and intercoms. The vendor touts the system's simple installation, high-reliability backbone, and rich API partner network, and a long track record of cybersecurity audits and privacy protections.

Great Cloud-based Access Control System with Solid Integrations

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Due to the integration with Nexudus, we chose this solution so that we did not have to provide building and coworking access manually to everyone visiting our space. We could not be happier with the Nexudus integration, allowing us just create the rules and focus on our core business. We are also a real estate owner/operator and have historically managed our building access in a traditional way with physical keys or a local access control system. Due to our positive experience through the coworking space, we decided to update two of our larger buildings with Brivo, and it has been great. We no longer have to run over to assist locked-out people; we can now open the doors remotely. It also helps us manage users easily as well as offer access via PIN, prox cards or fobs, and mobile passes. Initially, we rolled this out for building, elevator, and stair access, but now tenants are asking us to provide this for their spaces.

  • Brivo works great as a stand-alone cloud-based access control management system for commercial real estate.
  • Brivo has great integrations, especially with Nexudus, so that access can be provided automatically as customers and members require access.
  • Brivo has responsive customer support.
  • Brivo integrates with Eagle Eye for security surveillance.

Cons

  • Brivo is currently upgrading its UI and there have been some minor hiccups.

We use Brivo daily for building access, security, and property monitoring. Our facility is located in the heart of downtown Santa Cruz and we have a need to secure the facility after standard business hours, yet we still need to provide 24-hour access to our tenants. We maintain two unique facilities one being an office building above a public market that includes both building and elevator access and the other being a trash district servicing five buildings in the downtown area.
