Blender is a great software for small to mid sized studios and individual creators. It can do so much as compared to other softwares without any extra cost. You can do everything at one place which makes it so efficient as well.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

There are many use cases blender have in my current company, our whole pipeline has been shifted to blender. As an advertising firm,we have different departments such as photography, videography and realtime for different products. The base of every department is blender. We receive cad files from client which we cleanup in blender, also sometimes we do modeling from scratch using references in it. After that in blender we do unwrapping and ao of products, further we also do lighting and shading using octane in it. We also use it to produce video animation for different clients. Overall it helps in every department and is solid pillar of our pipeline.

Pros

  • The tools for modeling and cad cleanup are very good in blender, also there are many good free and cheap plugins which makes the workflow faster and easier.
  • The compatibility with other tools like octane helping us do realistic lighting for products.
  • The use of plugins and its open source nature helps us to integrate with our in-house softwares and develop plugins for seamless use.

Cons

  • As a previous Maya user, I can say that blender is still far away when it comes to modeling and animation. Some tools are great here but some are not up to the mark, we need to install separate plugins for those.
  • Also this is a personal choice but I personally don't like the interface of blender. Sometimes I feel its not much user friendly but maybe thats because I used Maya previously.
  • Blender is open source which is its strength and weakness at the same time. I feel its very buggy, the bugs can be very annoying sometimes. Although they have a very helpful support and community.

Likelihood to Recommend

Blender is a jack of all and master of none kind of software. It can do many things like modeling texturing lighting shading compositing, 2d animation but all are little half baked, we need plugins to make it the best. Its a very good option for small and indie studios but I think that it is still far away to become a industry standard, especially in vfx and film studios.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Blender is a wonderful tool if you work around 3D modelling or sculpting. I used blender for creating 3D models of different products for videos and content for Social Media. All features around 3D modelling are inbuild in blender and you also have the option to add additional plug-ins if you need external ones. Blender can be a bit intimidating for begineers who have no idea regarding 3D modelling tools and terms.

Pros

  • 3D modelling
  • Sculpting and character creation/Modelling
  • Animation, 3D animation

Cons

  • The UI, it can get really intimidating for first time users.

Likelihood to Recommend

Blender is perfectly suited for 3D modelling and animation with characters. Sculpting can get difficult in blender keeping in mind the tools in hand.

I mainly use it as a learning medium at the moment.

Pros

  • Providing an array of tools[.]
  • Providing free printed tutorials[.]
  • The program can be downloaded free of charge[.]
  • The interface is simple and you can save your projects easily[.]

Cons

  • It is a big program and requires large computer ram[.]
  • I would enjoy more video tutorials[.]
  • Making labels and buttons easier to find for new users[.]

Blender is well suited for character design from scratch. Designing any element from scratch is what blender is ideal for. Creating 3d animation and 2d background. You can test out different animations on a scene in a blender. If you a trying to design a full-on scene and 3d characters in one project it can get quite slow to render and load.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Blender is a free and open-source platform so it's a great choice for students and freelancers. Blender has all 3D features like animation, modeling, texturing, rigging, sculpting, and rendering but we mainly use blender for modeling and sculpting. Like all the other software, it takes little time to learn the UI.

Pros

  • free and open source platform
  • great software for modeling and sculpting
  • we can export blender file into any other file format
  • render with GPU

Cons

  • slow viewport performance sometimes
  • many features in one software makes it little complicated

If you are a new 3D artist, Blender is a perfect choice. It's free and has every 3D feature you need. In my opinion, Blender is great for modeling and sculpting compared to animation. personally, I feel a little uncomfortable animating in Blender so I only use bender for modeling and sculpting.
