Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Bitly to create custom short links for our social media postings. It’s brings a more professional look and feel to the posts than common short links or auto generated links. Bitly also gives us the track ability we need when putting links in less accessible places, like a print ad.

Bitly is great for social media or places where you cannot get analytics easily. Bitly allows you to create a branded experience right down to your domain name and links.

I use bitly to shorten links that have UTM parameters pertaining to our digital efforts.

Pros

Provides data such as number of clicks

Cons

Links mysteriously stop working
Making it easier to use customized brand bitly with website
Notify users when a link clicked on isn’t working
Verify that live URLs are being customized

Likelihood to Recommend

It’s well suited for social media teams that want to differentiate between their paid ca organic performance. Also, to track the specific performance of a campaign. It’s especially helpful to transform a long URL into a shorter one, and to be able to customize the text. Having random letters and numbers is an option, but spelling out words is more powerful.

Perhaps less appropriate if you aren’t tracking. For example, sometimes teams don’t use UTM parameters, and if that were the case, it would be more simple to use the URL.

Bitly is a great tool to shorten affiliate links for use on social media. It’s one of the best link shorteners for eBay because it shows up as eBay.to and not as a Bitly. It stores all links and allows even free users to see the link status, which is a fantastic analytical tool.

It sometimes gets blocked by Facebook

Likelihood to Recommend

It’s amazing for shortening affiliate links. I can’t think of any scenario where Bitly wouldn’t work. The only issue is when a few weeks ago all bitly links got flagged by Facebook as viruses.

Bitly shortened links are being used on our product labels. It allows customers to view product information related to their purchase.

Pros

Ease of Use

Unethical Company. They are holding an issue of ours hostage to get us to upgrade to enterprise level.
Horrible Customer Service - They do not care about their customers. No help was given to solve our problems.
Very Expensive - Compared to other solutions you are paying much more for Bitly. Also they only offer a complete solution at the highest paid tiers. We had an issue where we need to redirect a link and they would not allow us unless we upgraded to Enterprise level (Over $15,000 USD a year...)
Bad features - They've taken basic level features and hid them from standard paid tiers, forcing you to upgrade to fix your problems.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you're looking for a good link shortner where the team will help you with issues that come up, then stay away from Bitly. Unless you're willing to pay a massive amount for enterprise level then it's not worth it. Also I don't know why anyone would pay the enterprise level fees that they've set.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use bitly when advertising on social media to shorten urls. They are easy to use and they make a post readable. The dashboard provides great data about click rates and when the person clicks. I highly recommend this product.

Pros

Dashboard is excellent and provides useful data.
Keeps social media posts concise and short.

Cons

The ease of deleting old urls in the dashboard can be improved. I have to go through two steps to delete an old url.
I would like to have dashboard with folders since I use bitly for several different locations and I would like to be able to organize my URLs by location.

Likelihood to Recommend

I think this works well in social media posts and for newsletters/emails.
