Use Cases and Deployment Scope

BarTender is currently used by one of our Manufacturing sites. It is on the roadmap to roll BarTender out to all 4 of our sites of the next 1-2 years in line with our new ERP system. It currently allows us design our labels for our stock. We use it to create multiple different labels for different medias. It also allows us to print our labels from a cloud based ERP system.

Pros

  • Intuitive - Loads of Options
  • Easy to Use - The documentation included is easy to Follow
  • Reliable - Very minimal issues

Cons

  • Resource Intensive - Can use a lot of resources
  • Pricey - But you get what you pay for
  • Licensing can be quite difficult to understand

Likelihood to Recommend

The integrations that you can create allow you to pick up multiple different file type and carry out multiple different tasks. We use to to connect to Azure File Shares where our ERP system outputs CSV files. The integration then scans this directory for any new .CSV files and then carries out the steps to print a label that we designed using their design software.

BarTender: Printing Med Device product labels in real time

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company uses BarTender to print many different types of labels for use on medical devices. We use the software to design and print medical device product and regulatory labels that have specific barcodes and QR requirements. We recommend it to many OEMs for designing customized labels to fit their needs. The labels are printed by many different departments including program management, shipping, and manufacturing operations.

Pros

  • The ability to design labels quickly with templates or from scratch
  • The ability to use a database to print a large quantity of labels with various data inputs is critical for our requirements.
  • The ability to serialize is really convenient.

Cons

  • Sometimes using custom labels can be difficult to incorporate into a label if the template is made from scratch.
  • Often have issues trying to print the same label from different computers
  • It can be irksome to figure out why some text gets cut off when it shows up within the print bounds on a template.

Likelihood to Recommend

BarTender is great for use with databases. Setting up a database can take a little bit of time, but if you need to print hundreds or thousands of labels with different data, this is the best way to tackle it. I also love how you can import a photo or PDF of a label to help position where you would like the specific text to print on the label.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use BarTender Enterprise Automation version for printing bulk case labels and pallet rack labels. We also print labels for quarantined and released items in production.

Pros

  • Automation: BarTender Print Station provides a great way to present label templates for mass printing to non-technical end users.
  • Data input at print time: we're able to input dynamic values that constantly change, just before printing labels. This increases efficiencies and is crucial in our production department. It's easy to do, and we can lock it down to specific templates.
  • Serialization: being able to easily run batches of serialized labels, and trusting that they’re accurate, is very important. BarTender does this very well.
  • Label design: Creating bee labels in BarTender Designer is intuitive and robust. With its many collaboration features, we can do a lot within our complicated environment. Many labels, many variations, and they are all easily handled by a designer.

Cons

  • Licensing: argggh! Their draconian licensing model can stop you in your tracks if you’re not careful. It’s per printer, not seat, so errant print jobs can exceed your licenses. Be careful!
  • Interaction with the cloud: we recently moved to Box and have yet to figure out a way to utilize Print Station with our cloud database. If there’s a way to do it, it’s not well documented.
  • Support: if you’re not paying for premium support, expect an email response within 24 hours. Telephone support is good, but we’ve sometimes had to leave a message and wait...

Likelihood to Recommend

BarTender’s a great, robust application for the mass printing of bulk labels. It also integrates well with other systems. For printing small batches, which is a manual process, the fee Zebra Label Designer may be a better option.

We use BarTender to print bin labels, serial labels, any label we need we just design and print it

Pros

  • Total custom labels including logos
  • Serialize your labels each time you print. Get multiple copies of each serial number if needed
  • Restrict who can edit and modify the labels
  • Easy user interface

Cons

  • Requires a database to do label reprints
  • License is based on number of printers regularly used
  • Sometimes the preview is different the]an what is on the actual label

In all the jobs I have used it at, bartender has never failed to produce the labels I needed
