Bacula Enterprise has been used as a Backup tool by the company for over 5 years, covering the entire data environment, and ensuring the security of the company's environment. Its stable service guarantee, with frequent updates and technical support, when necessary, guarantee security for the IT team at times when recovery of company data is necessary.

Bacula is an intelligent backup solution. We use it for corporate backup with industry data copy routines and administrative environment. We use Bacula with a focus on filesystem backups (Linux, Windows) and Database (SQL and Oracle). In the future we will use the VMWare backup function.

Without a doubt, I recommend Bacula as a corporate backup solution to meet any and all needs within a company. The main uses are related to system file backup, virtual machine backup (VMWare and Hyper-V), Database. We have a catalog with a record of +700TB of data and the catalog DB only has 700GB of information from this data, which represents a very large space saving in relation to the total size of backups.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Bacula to perform backups of our entire data infrastructure, with it we are able to restore data whenever one of our users requests lost files from days and months prior to their accidental alteration or deletion. This is everyday usage, but the usage strategy goes much further, with Bacula backups being our last line of defense against file and server encryption attacks.

Bacula is very simple to use, with a user-friendly web interface that facilitates operation.
Bacula performs the backups very accurately which is clearly noticed when a restore is performed
Its ease of use helps in training new support team members

We use Bacula Enterprise in our company to back up virtual machines, file servers, email accounts, ACLS, active directory user accounts, LDAP, LGPD data, and especially research and development data. The use of bacula is extremely essential for our company because with it we have the security that all data will be stored and encrypted in case of loss of services or even the burning of a physical server. company business.

It is possible to restore a single specific file from a virtual machine backup, without having to restore the VM completely.
Possibility to restore a file with its proper ACLs, without losing user access permissions.
Full data encryption.
Possibility to perform backups to tapes or VTLs

Cons

Difficulty in visualizing the specific position of the media slot on the tape robot, without having to click on details.
When I perform the version upgrade, I always have problems using it in my PT-BR language, it seems that Bacula's operation in languages other than English is not validated, so we have to wait for patches for corrections.

Bacula Enterprise is very welcome in corporate environments, with full backup of data in high-volume data centers. I believe there is the no less appropriate place, as the tool is very versatile and can adapt to any type/format of data backup.

We changed from an old competitor solution and started to use Bacula Enterprise as a backup solution for our entire corporate technological environment with a file server, database, virtual servers, directory server, using dedupe, saving a lot on tapes and volume in the storage. The solution proves to be very effective, agile, and simple to administer. Best cost-benefit that we find on the market, as they have the same resources as the traditional ones, and for a much more affordable price.

Intuitive web console.
Plugin diversity.

Cons

Tool tuning could be a little easier, or there are some templates.
A single client installation along with the plugin, so you can choose which plugin to install.

This solution helps us a lot to keep the structure unsafe in case of disaster, as it has the facility to restore the backup environment itself, if necessary, and also the backed-up content. We had previous problems in another solution, we lost the environment and not even solution consultants were able to get back up and running, and we lost our entire backup base for more than 5 years, even though we kept the best practices in preventive maintenance of the environment. With Bacula Enterprise, I feel confident that this will not happen, due to the simplicity of restoring its environment.

At CloudHQ, we depend on Bacula every day to backup our critical systems. We have a mixed Windows/Linux environment and needed a solution that can span multiple platforms without breaking the bank. More importantly, we needed software that reliably did it's one thing of backing up or restoring our critical data and systems. The Bacula support staff are passionate about their product and it shows in customer service and technical abilities.

A little tricky to set-up at first, but like setting a watch, once you do it its a piece of cake.
