Azure Backup Review

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Azure backup is currently the go-to solution for our VM's in Azure.
It is easy and fast to setup so it's quickly up and running.

Previously our "legacy" backup solutions were unable to provide Bare Metal Restores of Azure VM's because of the lack of Hypervisor access. With Azure backup we can do simple file restores our full machine (Bare Metal) restores.

Pros

  • Bare Metal Restore for Azure VM's
  • Ease of installation
  • Security of the backups (Immutability)

Cons

  • Monitoring / Alerting could be more simplified/easy to setup
  • Projected cost (including storage) would be nice, to tell how in what range the cost will be of backing up a VM for x amount of days

Likelihood to Recommend

It is suited for all Azure VM workloads, the easiest way to get a Azure VM backup up & running.

We deployed it on the Typical Windows Server VM's but also on Linux vm's,

Azure Backups = Sleep Well

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We backup on-premises physical machines and Azure virtual machines with Azure Backup. We also use Azure Site Recovery with a few clients and it has had to be used and saved the day. Azure backups are always rock solid.

Pros

  • Backup on-premises physical machines
  • Backup Azure virtual machines with Azure Backup
  • Restore from backups
  • Azure Site Recovery syncs servers to Azure for disaster recovery purposes

Cons

  • backup schedule calendar would be cool
  • Backup vaults should ask if you want to send notifications when you first set it up, there have been a couple of times when I noticed a month later that, backup job failures were not configured to send email notifications.

Likelihood to Recommend

I sleep better at night knowing that we have Azure Backup configured. Having had to restore files and full backups multiple times I am confident in this solution. I would strongly encourage everyone with Azure to use Azure Backups, in fact, If they don't, I don't think I would want to do business with them.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

To create backups for on-premises and on cloud servers. It is simple to use and the cost is affordable when compared to other backup solutions. It is all cloud-based.

Pros

  • Easy to setup on the client side.
  • Ready to use.
  • Storage has a competitive cost.
  • Supports cloud and on premises resources.

Cons

  • Support for more operational systems.
  • Deduplication

Likelihood to Recommend

It is a robust solution that stores only modified data, this way it saves storage. It is really easy to use and the storage costs are one of the most competitive on market. It is handy even when the customer has nothing in the cloud and sometimes is the gateway to the cloud journey. You can use a backup set to restore a machine to the cloud, it can help business continuity.

A reference and great cloud backup solution.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have used it for over two years in a scenario to perform backups of virtual machines, SQL databases, and data in general. The interface is excellent, clean, friendly, and easy to learn and use. Even local non-IT users can use it without problems. With this tool, backups and restores are easy and simplified.

Pros

  • Easily backup and restore virtual machines.
  • Friendly and clean interface and very easy to configure.
  • Integrations with other Microsoft products. Customizations.
  • Excellent documentation from Microsoft. The guides help and are easy to follow to set up.

Cons

  • Successful solution. No errors or bugs or problems.

Likelihood to Recommend

What we like most is how easy it is to effectively backup and restore virtual machines. It can be done in the following ways: complete restoration, disk, and volume mounting on the local computer. It is a well-established solution in the market and a secure cloud with high availability and security.

The best model for automated backups in the cloud

Rating: 9 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Azure Backup to ensure that all of our own assets and those we manage for clients are fully recoverable with the proper RTO/RPO targets. The thing that is striking about Azure Backup compared to other cloud environments is how straightforward and simple the initial configuration is. In addition, it's not been my experience to find a straightforward utility designed around managing traditional backups on other major cloud platforms. I was expecting to have to do some of the custom scripting and scheduling that I needed to do in the past and was really happy to discover how easy it is to manage backups with Azure Backup.

Pros

  • Out-of-the-box simplicity.
  • Provides a single location to ensure backups are covered.

Cons

  • Perhaps makes users a bit more dependent on the UI of the service to use it.
  • The lack of detailed APIs makes it a little harder to integrate into an automation chain.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you're looking to quickly establish backup schedules and need to quickly configure a set of new assets, Azure backup will work well. Azure backup works especially well if you're working with a standard set of needs around your scheduling, recovery, and distribution parameters. If you want to do more complicated integration into custom automation pipelines, some more web-services based providers might be a better fit.

Azure Backup - The Best Choice For Azure Infrastructure

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Azure backup is in many different deployments and environments. We use it only for infrastructure in Azure. Azure backup is used for our customer environments as well as internal Azure environments. Azure backup addresses the need for a consistent and reliable backup solution in Azure that has the ability to snapshot/protect the entire VM.

Pros

  • Relatively quick backup times.
  • Protects the entire VM as well as file system/app consistent backups.

Cons

  • Restoring from Azure backup is a whole new VM deployment instead of just a VM restore.
  • Not as many metrics available for deep dive/analytics.

Likelihood to Recommend

Azure Backup is well suited for infrastructure in Azure. Azure backup is built into the platform and comes at no additional costs (you are charged for the storage, however), it is very easy to configure and get going. Azure backup is easy to work with when needing a restore and ties into the Azure platform really well.
