Cloud based environment for software development on Amazon

Rating: 8 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

AWS Cloud9 is being used as the cloud-based IDE by my team and part of the organization. The business problems it solves is the need for an integrated environment that allows for pair programming. This helps reduce bugs and other issues when it comes to writing some application code. Since it is cloud-based, we don't have to save the code and push it back and forth anymore, thus saving time.

Pros

  • Environment isolation
  • Pair programming
  • Software development and code editor

Cons

  • Code highlighting
  • Code folding
  • Plugins and extensions
  • Localized editing

Likelihood to Recommend

AWS Cloud9 is great for product engineering and coding where you must take time to pair program and code in a specific isolated environment. It is entirely cloud based so there's no worry about saving and data consistency. It is all hosted on the Amazon Web Services cloud. It is less appropriate for more general workflows that don't require a specific cloud instance.

AWS Cloud 9 --Great Code Editor that integrates well with AWS Processes

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our company is using many components of AWS for our ingestion data migration process, from an AS400 system to our Cloud Database through AWS and Snowflake Computing. AWS Cloud9 is being used to debug and implement code that is crucial for our ingestion build with our AWS CLI.

Pros

  • Allows you to write, debug and create code all from a web browser.
  • No need to install local applications to run code.
  • The Cloud9 Dashboard is intuitive and user-friendly.

Cons

  • We're unable to get into the IDE environment at times.

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well suited for any size business. My company, which is a larger company, uses this with our various environments. AWS Cloud9 is a feature that we do not use very often, but only when we are changing our code. It is a good alternative to writing code on applications like command prompt for your processes.
