FSxN for the enterprises review

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Before this amazing service, we had to use different solutions in different silos, and with any of the existing solutions, we had gaps from what we expect from an enterprise-grade solution. The resiliency, the number of features AWS has in terms of efficiencies and data mobility is lacking and they have no way to have cross-platform access, or to enjoy cross efficiencies. With FSxN we have the entire goodies that NetApp has developed for 30 years now for the enterprise, with centralized unified storage, as a fully managed IaaS. Awesome! We based our entire storage platform on Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP for any NAS (SMB and NFS) and iSCSI workloads.

Pros

  • Enterprise grade unified storage in the cloud
  • Multiprotocol access
  • PV for EKS
  • Data mobility
  • Data security
  • Integration with NetApp Cloud Manager

Cons

  • Data Protection from AWS console
  • Advance Matrix
  • FlexGroups creating as part of AWS console

Most Important Features

  • NetApp Cloud Manager
  • NetApp SnapMirror
  • NetApp FlexClones
  • Multi-protocol access

Return on Investment

  • It improved our TCO by optimizing storage costs between SSDs and S3
  • It speeded our TTM with speedy deployment and orchestration
  • It removed needed expertise from our engineers
