We use Linode for web applications that cannot be run on our WordPress site, including a mailing list and conference registration.
Pros
- Fully customizable server configuration.
- Range of server plans based on specific needs.
- Extensive help center with guides for a range of use cases.
- Easy to configure reverse DNS.
- Easy to swap IP4 addresses with an existing Linode when building a replacement one.
Cons
- Wish we could swap IP6 addresses as well (not just IP4).
- When rebuilding a Linode, would be nice to use a Marketplace app (seems to be available only when creating a new Linode).
- Need better documentation of Marketplace apps, especially settings during creation phase.
Likelihood to Recommend
Linode is well suited for those needing a fully customizable server for a range of applications. It is definitely not for those looking for a one-click WordPress setup.
