Fantastic and reliable backup software

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Acronis Cyber Protect for some of our clients in order to back up business critical workstations. Recently we had to carry out a full system restore to new hard drive and the Acronis backup worked perfectly for this.

Pros

  • Runs on a predetermined schedule
  • Protects the entire server from complete failure
  • Easy to restore

Cons

  • Could be slightly easier to use - sometimes the interface and options can be overwhelming
  • It would be good if you could back up endpoints to your own offsite data location, via rsync for example

Likelihood to Recommend

Its well suited when you want to back up full systems so that you can restore the entire system/operating system even if the hardware has failed. Its less suited in my opinion to simple backups for example when you want to back up just files on a workstation (Because it feels a little over-complicated for that task).

Where Acronis Cyber Protect Excels: Ransomware defense: Blocks threats and auto-restores clean files. Remote workforce: Secures and manages remote devices without VPNs. Fast recovery: Restores full systems quickly after hardware failure. One of the best features is the ability to spin up a backup of a Virtual Server and place it into production in a very short amount of time.

Pros

  • Version control on files - we can restore older files no problem.
  • Encryption of data - customers data is protected POPIA.
  • On time backups ensures data is secure.

Cons

  • Auto update on agents does not always succeed.
  • Recovery of data for a single instance installation cannot be done.

Likelihood to Recommend

Backup of laptops is done wherever the client goes as long as they have internet it makes the job easier. Managing the backup remotely we can ensure config changes without logging into the user's desktop. Some of our servers are not accessible via conventional ways but we can configure the backup and ensure stability.

  • Bare metal backup for physical and virtual servers.
  • File folder backup.
  • Cloud + local backup.

Cons

  • I would like to see an option to test the boot-ability of a VM in an automated process.

It is suited in small to large sized businesses. It may be less appropriate for a customer with a large data set and a small budget due to the cost compared to some less effective solutions.

We use Acronis Cyber Backup to provide clients with a full service and incredibly reliable backup service. It provides a full suite of backup options from file level on basic workstations to full application based backup on servers. We use it to help customers reach their RTO and RPO goals.

Pros

  • Provides detailed backup reports of successes and failures making it easy to troubleshoot issues.
  • Image level backups to local or cloud that just work.

Cons

  • Acronis Cyber Backup has many resellers that require year long commitments to use their backups.
  • Implementation of new users can be a bit roundabout for the reseller.

Likelihood to Recommend

Acronis Cyber Backup is very well suited for mid-sized companies that are looking for a cloud backup solution that will provide a robust and very reliable backup. It’s a bit pricier than other solutions so it’s not as suited toward companies with small amounts of data to backup. Though with that price comes a high level of support and high level of reliability that isn’t available with cheaper solutions.

We use Acronis Backup for our servers as well as PC's to make backups for safety and archival. It is simple to use and has been reliable for us.

Pros

  • Easy to install.
  • Easy to manage.
  • Easy to create a backup or clone disk.

Cons

  • It is expensive for small company use, but considering the importance of data, even a high price tag is not a disadvantage.
  • It can be somewhat slow at times.
  • The web interface sometimes kicks you out.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would not hesitate to recommend this product, it is one of the best options for backing up and recovering data. It offers an information control panel, various specialized tools for the protection of your files, with one of the benefits of being able to access them at any moment wherever it is.

We mainly use it before reinstalling a computer, or before major computer updates. Like we did with Acronis True Image before, we will do a full backup of the computer and keep it for a certain period of time. Most of the time, a user will receive a new computer, and within a few days, they will remember files and settings that they forgot to transfer, or after an employee leaves, sometimes we need to go back to his work files.

  • It supports multiple backup destinations.

Cons

  • It can become expansive.
  • Could be integrated with more third storage provider.
  • Can become hard to manage with a lot of computers.

Likelihood to Recommend

If you want daily backups of all your computers, from inside or outside the network, that software is great for you. You can manage remotely and set up reporting. You can do file backups to bare metal restore backups. You can also use it to backup servers, and virtual machines, and it supports multiple operating systems.

I have been using Acronis Backup for over 10 years and it has proven to be the most reliable product I have used for data and server backups. I use it internally and with all my customers. It gives me peace of mind in knowing I can recover data quickly and fully.

Likelihood to Recommend

  1. Acronis works well in protecting critical systems. These can be servers, business PCs or laptops. Basically, any critical system.
  2. Create images for deployment to new PCs or laptops.
  3. Move a system to new hardware.
  4. Create virtual hard drives for use in a HyperV or VMware host environment.
  5. Imaging of systems experiencing hard drive issues for recovery to a new hard drive.

Acronis Backup is used throughout our organization, but it is primarily utilized in the Information Technology sections. It addresses the business problems of keeping our data reliably and transparently backed up. Some solutions are more complicated and difficult to implement, while others do not have the rich functionality that Acronis gives to our team.

  • Ease of management
  • Helps with ransomware protection
  • Great backup speeds

Cons

  • RTO lags a little bit behind the speeds that are claimed in the literature
  • Remote management could be better
  • Cloud storage should be included
  • Lack of popular 3rd-party cloud backup targets

Likelihood to Recommend

It is well-suited for enterprise use, even when multiple platforms are being utilized. You need to have a reliable network and a competent IT staff (which most are). It is less appropriate for very small companies or companies that have disparate locations across the globe. Acronis Backup Standard might be more suited for smaller companies.
