We utilize Absorb as our Learning Management System to serve both Tektronix employees and our distribution partners who sell our products, operating as two separate instances. We also now use Absorb Create to develop training courses.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I'm an administrator of the LMS and use it to create curricula and courses (ILCs and online courses). It solves problems of our Learning & Development team having courses scattered across different systems. It also helps us automate our work by being able to send automated enrollment/completion messages and certificates. We serve 4,500 customers and provide courses for different subsets within that group.

Pros

  • User-friendly with icons for course creation
  • Checks before we publish courses to ensure we don't make mistakes
  • Track completion metrics for courses
  • Ease at which we can upload various types of files into courses, and the ease at which we can create curricula combining multiple courses

Cons

  • The "And" and "Or" rules for self + automatic enrollment could be spelled out more to clarify who we're enrolling into courses
  • The thumbnail and poster "Upload photo" section is confusing. There should be a "Favorites" folder where we can easily find most commonly used posters and thumbnails
  • more education around Absorb analyze essentials
  • How the Featured courses section ranks courses is confusing on the back-end. I need to switch the primary one to second place to feature the new one first. But if the previous one now becomes second place, what happens to the old course that was in second place? I've noticed the order you select on the back-end for this isn't always reflected on user side
  • Same comment as Featured Courses but for appearance of billboards. Hard to position each in the right order

Likelihood to Recommend

Absorb LMS would be well-suited for functional groups with a variety of courses and curricula containing a lot of courses, for highly technical training series, and for marking attendance after the fact for in-person speaker events. We put up a QR code on the screen of our speaker events so that attendees can enroll directly upon arriving and be marked as having attended. Would not be as well suited for onboarding maybe because in my experience, if you don't have the "Manager" field populated, you can't automate messages to someone's manager. You also can't send messages to someone's manager before the new hire joins (when the manager should be completing a lot of onboaridng tasks)

We use it for upskilling, re-skilling, and onboarding. The LMS boosts team member engagement that matches are culture of learning. It allows us to connect our main intranet which boosts are culture.

We wanted to elevate our Onboarding and it allows us to be creative with creating courses that match our culture. Our learners have giving positive feedback on the Onboarding Learning Path since we launched it. It is very simple for learners to navigate as well.

Absorb is used as the ClinOps focused LMS. It is where we put all Non-GxPLearn training. It is much easier to use that the system that houses GxPLearn training.

  • Easier search feature so we can find the course we want to take.

Cons

  • Reporting.
  • Identifying which department is responsible for a course.
  • Showing the assignment logic of courses in some type of report.

My company uses Absorb as our LMS software platform. It allows us to distribute learning solutions to all employees. We use these learning solutions to stay compliant with regulatory requirements as well as upskilling and re-skilling our workforce. We needed something flexible, with multi-faceted capabilities that is still easy for users and admins. Absorb fits the bill.

Likelihood to Recommend

It's perfect for our use case. I think organizations without a dedicated LMS Admin/Instructional designer might be happier with something that is less flexible but easier to use and already tied in to a content library. I appreciate being able to use content that is developed in-house or content from multiple providers

We use Absorb LMS as our Learning Management System for the Pharmaceutical Development & Manufacturing group of our organization. As a professional development team, Absorb LMS helps us manage courses and track progress outside of the GMP environment, which is intended for compliance trainings, while our focus is on development trainings. Through Absorb LMS, our team offers custom learning content to over 4,000 employees, and are able to track their training metrics in an intuitive format.

Pros

  • Intuitive, user-friendly interface that is simple and modern to customize and design
  • Customizable dashboard that helps generate and track relevant data.
  • Scalable infrastructure that support thousands of users
  • Easy to manage courses, uploads, and updates.

Cons

  • When setting up Instructor Led Courses with recurring sessions for a single cohort, the schedule can be confusing, particularly regarding the start time and end date. Even though the sessions recur on different days, the system often displays the same start and end date. This can confuse learners, especially if they don’t click “More” to view the full recurrence details. If the system recognized the recurrence properly, it would be ideal for the end date to reflect the final session in the series.

Likelihood to Recommend

From our experience, Absorb LMS is very well suited for internal teams to boost employee development through personalized learning paths and learning outcomes. It has been very seamless to track completions and monitor learner progress for us, which is one of the main benefits. Although challenges may arise with multiple groups managing one system, it is working out well for our organization with multiple departments under one system.

This is used for customer training for a need they expressed to us where new graduates do not have the necessary knowledge to be trained without a large investment of time from them and other staff members. We created a curriculum that will fill this gap for them and provide a solid basis for their training so that when the new starter has finished, they are ready to jump into the practical side of the training much quicker. This will not only provide our customers added value for when they partner with us, but will reduce the burden of their in-house training in an already stretched workplace.

Pros

  • The Create Course function is extremely good. I can use it easily as someone who has never built a learning module before, and this was very important to avoid having to outsource the creation of a very niche course type.
  • The implementation support and training was fantastic, very personable and relevant to where I was at the time, we covered everything I needed to know to successfully create our curriculum and publish this for our customers
  • The customisation on the learner pages is great - the fact that if you implement departments, you can use bespoke layouts and designs for different people means we can fully customise to our customers' needs
  • The reports function, being able to set up custom reports to be sent automatically reduces the amount of time we would have to spend monitoring things manually, and can give our customers an overview of their staffs' training progress

Cons

  • What I would like to see most is the ability to use superscript and subscript in the course builder. I can't tell you how much time this would save me as someone building a very technical scientific course.
  • Being able to have users that can monitor their department progress without being counted as an active user as they are not taking part in any of the learning would allow our customers' to better manage their staff training.
  • Sometimes in Create if you put some text or object in and accidentally have it appear and disappear at the same time, it's almost impossible to remove it. It would be nice to see an overview of everything that's on the page (almost like layers in an art app).

Likelihood to Recommend

This could be used as our main LMS, but I don't have the power to make that decision. But it is robust enough that it could sufficiently handle our internal training needs. As we use it now, it will cover the needs of our customers extremely well and be very well received. We will be able to provide a polished, professional curriculum with good reporting features, and within our budget thanks to the course builder that lets me create everything myself.

LMS In Our Restaurant Group

We are a restaurant that struggled with communication during training. It became a game of telephone where one training would vary in steps to service being communicated. Using Absorb LMS has eliminated that game and cleared our lines of communication. Now, every team member receives the same information and clear steps are set in place. Using videos and other resources clearly shows them our expectations. Users are able to move at their own pace and master one skill before moving to the next. Our LMS makes learning easy and fun for the learner where they're learning information that will help our company increase our retention goals and boost our overall sales figures by creating a memorable experience for each and every guest that walks thru our doors.

Our organization utilizes Aborb LMS as a training platform to provide enhanced training materials that can be accessed at anytime and anywhere to our learners. Our learners are spread across multiple countries and time zones and Absorb LMS allows us to maintain consistency in branding and expectations for all learners. Additionally, we utilize the live-virtual learning option and connect out trainings through Zoom to the Absorb LMS platform.

Pros

  • Absorb LMS has created a platform that has an incredibly user friendly backend that makes it incredibly straightforward to create courses for our leaners to access the most up to date information.
  • This platform can create simple, accessible courses for learners to access materials or all the way up to utilizing Ai, videos and voiceovers to create engaging courses.
  • With a dedicated Client Success Manager assigned to our company, I am able to get all my copious questions answered quickly and efficiently while learning even more ways the Absorb platform can take our courses to the next level. Our CSM is incredibly patient, creative and proactive and made it easy for us to integrate from a previous platform.

Cons

  • Translations features are basic and there is a big need in our global environment to provide content in varying languages.
  • User Interface can be a little clunky at first and less agile than other Apps.
  • Ability to truly customize is limited.

Likelihood to Recommend

Absorb LMS is well suited to any industry that requires training of any kind. Although often used for compliance trainings, we have utilized the platform for more general brand sales/marketing and education training. Any organization that needs a central place to house training materials and track completion rates would benefit from utilizing the Absorb LMS.
