I do not see any reason why anyone would not use Tintri as backend storage for anything. Tintri is flash storage so it's a bit more expensive than your regular backend storage but the speed is amazingly fast. Building virtual machines on Tintri storage cuts down server deployment time by 75%

• Performance scales linearly by adding new nodes
• Guaranteed QOS policies offer both a minimum IOPS and maximum IOPS with burst capabability, so its not just capping the upper limit of a workload
• Encryption at rest is integrated into the array platform
• Grid architecture ensures that ability to perform rolling upgrades online without severely impairing performance
• VVOL capabilities with the array allow granular control and visibility of the workloads

• Extremely simple design and intuitive user interface. This allows me to get the information I need and perform the tasks I need with very few clicks.
• Incredibly fast; IOPS constraints are no longer even a consideration, let alone an issue.
• Excellent support; these appliances almost never have issues, but if something does arise, technical support is fast and knowledgeable. I talk directly with someone who can help me, not go through the escalation chain.

• There seems to be an overarching view (with drill downs) of the entire infrastructure.
• You need a solid partner to implement this product initially.
• As this product is still integrating with Net Apps mature support systems, I still think that there is room for a better end to end experience.

All in all, Net App Solid Fire is a strong competitor to Nutanix AOS or HPE SimpliVity. It is conceded that there are plusses and minuses for the competitive landscape, however, Net App Solid Fire is a worthwhile competitor at a very competitive price point.

We chose Tintri because it allowed us to no longer have to carefully manage our storage platform. We pretty much set it and forget it. Also, management of Tintri does not require a storage expert. This is no longer a full time job to manage.
