Simple, easy-to-deploy accessibility that automatically scans, remediates and provides proof of compliance once the process is complete. It is ideal for people who want to make their website much more accessible and provide their users with an intuitive adjustable interface.

Best suited: - Merging emails coming from: Facebook leads forms, Unbounce or landing pages forms, Google forms, any other kind of lead generation tool and bundling all that information together for a single user "profile". - Passing events generated in multiple applications by the same user (product selected in web, product discarded in cart, etc) and delivering those events into other applications (like a CRM) Less appropriate: - Reading/updating data directly from segment from a frontend application

Pros
  • User-friendly customisable dashboards, easy to make a dashboard from a template, or create your own, and add in whichever 'widgets' are relevant for what you are looking at
  • Flagging words to review, allowing users to check and confirm if the word is 'accepted' or is a misspelling

  • Unmatched insight into the customer journey when they come into contact with our business.
  • The ability for it to break down data in a way that allows us to analyse customer engagement.
  • It efficiently integrates with my current softwares eg Shopify.

Cons
  • I don't like that there are different navigation paths to go from point A to point B. When I want to navigate to a specific place, I have more than one way to get there, which means I have to make a decision about how I want to there and I'd rather the designer make that design based on what would be most efficient for me.

  • Potentially, it could "warn" the developers/product about areas in our code that are not covered by events (and let us decide if it's "be design" or we missed it).
  • It's difficult to get accumulated history data exported out in order to analyze it.
  • There's no easy way to compare data from 2 sources (our main target is to compare the same events between our test environment and prod environment).

Usability
Tool has undergone numerous changes, both to function and UX/CX. Makes it less than user friendly at times. But on the other hand, that does indicate a willingness to improve the product in a continual manner - which they've done nearly year after year - but it's always a case of who moved my cheese with each new iteration.

Support Rating
I've used support often and it has been responsive, thorough and considerate of our needs. I can get a tech right away, they understand the issue, and work with us to resolve it. Often the problem is with the site we are trying to scan, sometimes it is with their product. I appreciate that they go beyond support into continually helping us implement SiteImprove in more places with 3rd party integration.

Over the period it took us to set up, we kept going back to their enablement team to help us with the setup, and they were always ready and were very helpful in the entire process. Even with their documentation, they took the time out to help us work through the process. We've never had a message/email unanswered for more than an hour on working days.

Alternatives Considered
Siteimprove provides richer features when it comes to how granular you can define policies and metrics for search engine optimization and content relevance. It is also much easier to set up and maintain the sites that you want to administer. However, pricing wise is more costly which can be a constraint for smaller organizations.

Segment is not really suitable for most websites that have more than 10k MTU - If you run a semi-popular website, there are many tools out there that will do basic web analytics, like Google Analytics. Google Analytics provides simple resources for tracking user growth, demographics, and conversion rates of websites, which is more suitable for companies that are looking for simpler analytics data.

Return on Investment
  • Siteimprove has helped bring our accessibility scores up from middling to near-perfect.
  • Siteimprove has helped reduce our broken links, style violations and misspellings.
  • Siteimprove's heatmaps have helped us make the case for enforcing best practices on the website among key stakeholders.

  • Event tracking lets you take ownership of your own data, which in part makes it easy to craft metrics and do deep dives to see how your product is working. This has a huge ROI, because without metrics you're basically flying blind.
  • You can also use Segment's event tracking to fuel your experimentation and AB testing strategies. AB testing is the best way to ship features in a tech product with confidence that you're making a positive impact.
