SAP Extension Suite (discontinued) vs. Swiftify

The adoption of SAP Extension Suite is growing significantly and it has become a strategic platform for our company. SAP Extension Suite will most likely meet the requirements of most companies to get beyond small workgroup apps and tackle more strategic requirements. The most important thing that SAP Extension delivers is a single UI for development effort for web and mobile deployment.

It is recommended to use Swiftify in any situation that requires iOS development because even if you develop just in Swift or just in Objective-C, it could be helpful for researching and investigating purposes. Additionally, if you need to convert big quantities of code from Objective-C to Swift, this tool will optimise that work. It will not translate a whole class of 2000 lines perfectly, but after converting it you can review the code and modify the lines that have not been properly converted, making you save more than the 50% of the time in that case. I've not been able to test it properly as I only used the trial version and it is really limited.

• Helps to prevent redoing the whole code.
• Sometimes it is hard to find the exact command of Obj-C in swift.

• It was a bit of a hassle to configure at first but once setup it's easy and fast.
• At a certain time they removed key items used in pipelines to force upgrades.
• The new UI though works well feels less intuitive than the previous one.

• Sometimes the conversion doesn't make much sense. The Swift conversion doesn't compile, or is not optimized.

I don't have any problems with the platform. I like that their email responses are fast.

We have been able to work in a much more agile way with SAP Extension Suite, and there is a lot of excitement that developing with this platform is significantly faster. SAP Extension Suite is the perfect fit to build great-looking applications that work on any form factor, be it [a] smartphone, laptop, or tablet, and within budget.

There's not much to compare - we haven't found any proprietary like it. Existing OpenSource solutions are unmaintained and Swiftify supports the latest versions of Swift.

• Faster development cycle due to native integration with SAP products
• Negative short-term ROI due to the lack of training material and significant differences with the previous version of the same tool (SAP Web IDE)
• Tighter integration with corporate programming guidelines since SAP Extension Suite offers great integration with DevOps pipeline solutions

• For now the impact has been small, considering that I used the trial version, it was helpful for small conversions. Summarising: Saving time on researching process
