I truly hated Sage as a bookkeeper. I know that accountants don't have the same experience, but from a day to day perspective, it was not user friendly.
Easier to use and setup. More accountants are familiar with it so that also made the selection easier. Other software was also more expensive and had features that we weren't going to utilize at our current growth stage.
Although I've used a number of other accounting systems, Sage is really comparable to Xero and QuickBooks Online, as it is competing in the same basic accounting software category. Sage One Accounting has been selected in certain client situations where they were already using …
I find that Wave can be slow and frustrating. It is also very limited and more geared for American and Canadian users. Regarding QuickBooks Online, I attempted the demo when shopping for a system. Sage Business Cloud is more widely used in South Africa so using QuickBooks Online…
Quickbooks is not for me i don't like anything about it, the terminology they use is not clear and the layout is not user friendly. Xero i use in my practice as some clients prefer it. If i have the choice i do use Sage but if the client prefers Xero i will use. It can be …
It's a very good system which is reliable and provides all the basics, I believe it is less flexible in making corrections to mistakes. There is no fixed asset module in the lower levels and therefore depreciation has to be worked out in a separate system which really is a …
Sage Accounting is easy to use, the website is easy to navigate and looks cleaner. The bank feed is much simpler, and the matching systems seem better.

Xero is probably more user friendly, but from an accounting perspective Sage Accounting is up there.
I think Sage Accounting is much better than their competitors; Clients have found the 24/7 support invaluable for when our office is closed, including the Help videos on the Sage website and YouTube
Sage Accounting VAT processing is easy and reports are easy to read and close off od VAT periods are simple and straight forward where I found some other software it is not as simple. When you add bank transactions manually and they have VAT, some other software would be out …
I used a commercial version of QuickBooks in the past and it suited my needs then. I have not used QuickBooks as intensively as I use Sage. I just preferred Sage at the time because, after evaluating demo versions of both solutions, it simply suited my and the entity's needs …
Sage is much easier to use and does not have confusing language for income and expenses i.e. Bills on both Quickbooks and Xero. Using journals is also much easier as these other two programs making it hard to find.
Sage Accounting produces better-quality reports and is more user-friendly.

Probably the biggest reason I selected Sage Accounting is the number of years I have been using it. My training was all manual, and with Sage Accounting I can see and understand how it works. I did use Pegasus successfully for a number of years with a different employer, but …
While QuickBooks is a solid solution, Sage Accounting offers enhanced security and effectively prevents any unrecorded activity. I'm thoroughly satisfied with Sage Accounting and Payroll and have no intention of switching back. Better security and prevents any unrecorded …
I'd personally put Sage Accounting on a par with Xero but significantly ahead of Quickbooks. I'd say the choice falls down to individual needs and choice. Sage Accounting offers a fair and not substantial monthly cost, with this being a monthly cost that's helpful particularly …
Its far more flexible, much better value for money, UK based with accessible and intelligent support. Unlike the other software providers Sage is low on gimmicks and high on usable content. It does what it needs to do exceptionally well and it is constantly evolving.
QuickBooks Online has garnered positive reactions for its multifunctional capabilities that cater extensively to small and medium-sized businesses, emphasizing ease of transaction handling, including invoice generation, and comprehensive financial reporting. Users have expressed how QuickBooks Online adeptly supports fast and accessible bookkeeping activities, critical for those requiring a system that provides real-time insights into their operations, appreciated by a broad range of business structures from construction companies to outsourcing firms.
Sage Accounting, on the other hand, has been predominantly identified by users for providing robust usability and straightforward online access which enhances bookkeeping transparency. Particularly beneficial for businesses like virtual accounting firms or those requiring remote management of financial activities, Sage Accounting enables a streamlined invoicing and payment monitoring system that can be accessed remotely, a feature extolled for keeping financial affairs centralized and straightforward. This aspect of Sage Accounting is pivotal for users requiring frequent, application-based user interaction like real-time financial statement generation and transaction monitoring from diverse geographic locations.
Both software solutions are deployed across a range of industries and have been tailored to address user-specific accounting challenges, particularly for entrepreneurs, small business owners, and accountants. However, QuickBooks Online has been highlighted for its additional functionalities with third-party integrations from apps and other online tools enhancing its utility, whereas Sage Accounting is prized for its simplicity and effectiveness in handling core accounting tasks without the requirement for extensive additional features.

I appreciate the ability to auto-generate invoices for recurring transactions, which saves time, as well as the option to set up auto-generated transactions. The report option is super helpful when reviewing information, as you can click to view the details in the report without having to go back and forth.
My experience comes from the integration and development level, and Sage Accounting has been overall great to work with. The tools provided and support offered have been extremely useful for our implementations, and they continue to update and improve at a quick pace. Any issues we've encountered with integrations have either been resolved by Sage Accounting through updates, or different methods brought to us from support to handle those issues from a different angle.
Workflows for accounts payable invoice review are terrific.
Bill payment allows you to pay vendors online via ACH or check without having to write a physical check, which reduces admin time.
The cloud based login lends well to a remote or hybrid work environment for staff.
QuickBooks Online allows you to pre-configure vendors' general ledger expense accounts. This helps with general ledger coding accuracy and consistency.
QuickBooks Online integrates with Rippling HRIS, Coast, Capital One, JPMorgan Chase, etc., which lends well to an efficient month-end closing and reduced administrative time.
Bank integration - being able to extract banking transaction into Sage Accounting.
Allocation rules - transactions are auto-allocated once allocation rules have been set up. This is a great time-saver.
Flexibility - the ability to view transactions, click on them to the allocation point and rectifying if required saves having to create journals, and therefore time. General ledgers therefore stay cleaner and more user-friendly.
The upsells have gotten worse over time and are on every screen in the most awkward positions. I don't need a constant reminder to upgrade, especially on a very old account that's paid thousands over the years.
The interface has never been especially intuitive, but I was an old Quicken user and it was somewhat familiar. Over time, it's gotten worse, and in the last 2 years, the program seems to move things more often than I would expect.
The software constantly adds features that I don't want and want to turn off, but the interface is so difficult to use that I find myself skipping it. Imagine seeing a message that the system recognized invoices that hadn't been paid so it prepared reminder notices for you that can be sent at the click of a button. Who thinks using canned reminders that you've never seen is a good thing?
A lot of functionality seems to derive from connecting your bank accounts to QBO. I don't want Intuit to have an always-on connection to any bank accounts, even checking.
I find it difficult to record journals in cloud accounting. Maybe I just don’t have the knowledge.
It’s important to export all unrecorded sync bank transactions to Excel to send to clients to explain the payment receipts before being posted. This function is not available on the cloud and makes life harder, having to call out the transactions to clients over the phone.
It like the product 'right out of the box' and I trust Intuit will continually improve it over the years based on my experience with their desktop products. The large providers of Apps makes customizing the entire package relatively easy and seamless for a wide variety of business types.
We're very happy with the functionality and overall experience of using Sage Accounting for our accounting needs. Currently, we are not even considering whether we would need to look around for a different option. The only things that would make us consider changing would be a significant increase in price or changes to the software which reduce it's ease of function.
I had very little trouble setting up the program and migrating from our old accounting system. The daily usage is also very intuitive and easy. Anytime we run into minor trouble with the program, there are always tons of help available on YouTube, so we don't even look up the online manual anymore.
There is so much on pastel that if you do not really take the time to learn, you might never completely utilize the software effectively. Software setup is not something you can really do on your own; however, there is always an active pastel team that makes sure you get all you need set up until you are good to go.
Sage has been always available when I want it. If there is any maintenance work to be done by the Sage team, you are told well in advance. Maintenance is generally carried out late at night or before the day begins for most of us. It continues to be the most reliable software I use.
Performance is top notch, if it is not, it is probably your wi-fi connection. It has happened that pages load slowly because of an error on Sage side but almost never. Overall reports load fine, the site is fast, navigation is fine. I have a client that has so many invoices, it is slow or gets stuck when you try to load a report for a whole year but it is just too many invoices, it makes sense. Just take 2 report for 6 months and combine them, its not an issue for me. I am happy with Sage Accounting's performance.
In my experience, most representatives keep me on the phone for hours, literally, for a single issue and then usually cannot resolve it satisfactorily. I have 10 open cases that need resolution and, in my experience, there has been NO follow-up communication on any of them.
Sage Accounting are easy to contact and have knowledgeable and helpful staff. Whenever I've encountered a problem I've always been able to get assistance and guidance and it feels like the person at the end of the phone/screen knows the product well.
Staff are always friendly, and patient, always work at a speed that suits you. You are never rushed, and In only a short time they seem to be able to help you make great strides. It has been a pleasure not a chore, learning how SAGE Accounting works and benefits me and the company.
I find the online training was very informative and they answered all my questions. I am also certified in Sage One and provided online training in the program which I have set up several people on and they love how it keeps them organized.
The person in charge of QB needs to be very accurate with record keeping and is recommended to stay on top of tasks. The biggest issue we have is reconciliation, and those issues occur only when too much time has occurred between reconciliations
The clients' business owner worked with Sage on implementation before I began working for them. After consultation with them it is clear the process was quickly performed and without complication. The key takeaway was that Sage is seen as a partner to the business. That said, it was always necessary to engage with an accountant such as myself to extract the best out of the software.
As a freelance bookkeeper, the Desktop version of QuickBooks Online doesn't allow for ease of access from any device. Having to be on a computer with the software downloaded creates additional work to gain access to all required filings etc. Also, I personally find the linking functionality on the Online version to be much more streamlined and user friendly.
Sage was just easier for me to use and more familiar for my staff, who had some experience with enterprise versions of Sage in the past. It became a no-brainer when I made the final decision about which package to go with.
The pricing structure is fair and offers good value for money. The billing is done through their online system and you can access your bills at any time. Most contacts only require 30 days' notice, so no need to feel tied in, although I can't imagine why you would want to leave Sage.
As we have grown along our professional path, we have also expanded our use of QB. The scalability is easy and features seem to be waiting for you until you need them. We have increased profits by over 10x from our first year in business to the current and have yet to find a reason to look elsewhere
You can use Sage in your company for various aspects/positions such as bookkeepers, invoicing clerks, accountant, purchasing etc. Everyone can have their own user login and permissions can be set that specific people can do specific jobs without being able to access other peoples progress or accounts of the company.
QuickBooks has given us a useful portal by which to get an overview of our financials.
QuickBooks has given us a relatively easy way to send out invoices quickly and efficiently.
Due to the customization limitations on QuickBooks, we've had to get creative in third-party implementations to better represent our brand and to track financials.
