Prezi
Score 8.1 out of 10

Prezi’s advantage over static slides is that its interactive, zoomable canvas shows the relationship between the big picture and the fine details. The vendor’s value proposition is that this puts ideas in context, and makes them more likely to resonate, motivate, and be remembered.

Well Suited: Setting up in-person presentations for clients. The transitions are nicely integrated, the master template easily adjusted, and the file size relatively small for ease in download and emailing as a leave behind. Less Appropriate: Clients often feel that EVERYTHING needs to be set up as a slide deck. However, it is key to listen to the client's needs to first determine the final output. What was initially predetermined to be a slide deck may often be more effective as an email, brochure, or flyer. Keynote does what it is intended to, well, but that doesn't mean that it should ALWAYS be the end product format.

I believe Prezi is well suited when an author wants to create a more compelling presentation. It is also most useful when using it to explain processes, flows, and/or other visual elements. From another perspective, when it is necessary to create something more quickly, Prezi may not be the right solution, when compared to PowerPoint, for example. There are nice templates, but the creation process may not be so fast and simple.

Pros
  • Enables the integration text, images and graphics extremely seamlessly
  • Allows realtime collaboration across teams
  • Allows fine tuned control over graphic elements, images and text to achieve superior design (relative to PPT or Slides)
  • Enables for presentation or for print equally well

  • Prezi can provides a literal "big picture" view of the presentation content. This helps the audience understand what the presentation is ultimately all about.
  • Prezi is anything but bland. It animates the content and makes it feel like you are "in" the material.
  • Prezi presentations can incorporate video, images, text and more. There are many options to present content to an audience.

Cons
  • The way you adjust timings for builds and transitions was a bit counterintuitive for me. Once I got the hang of it, it was fine. The timings don't work the same as they do in PowerPoint. So if you are a PowerPoint user, that may be something you have to adjust to when you switch to Keynote.
  • I feel that adding images can be clunky when working with image placeholders. Apple Keynote forces you to use the Photo app to replace image placeholders.

  • Can be buggy and crashes mid design.
  • Not suitable for simple presentations.
  • Hard to create something quick and simple, so even after we gained experience we still had a hard time using it to deliver a presentation overnight.
  • Can be slow to load a presentation, so we always setup 5-10 minutes before our actual presentation time and made sure everything is loaded and ready to go.

It is already included with my Macbook and the design functionality is pretty advanced so I can upload my custom brand fonts and it is easy to create templates where you can drag and drop different images while keeping overall alignment and placement the same

Usability
Apple Keynote is incredibly user-friendly and largely intuitive. In the rare areas that Apple Keynote is not intuitive, there is a robust online community of fellow Apple Keynote users that can answer most questions I have about the program. I would encourage any of my coworkers - and anyone else in my same line of work - to adopt Apple Keynote because of its user-friendliness.

Learning to use Prezi and create new presentations is very simple and easy to do. It does not require new skills or a long training process, since in general the use is quite intuitive (and if you have any questions there are many videos on how to use it). Its operation in both the browser version and the app is very good and fluid, managing to perform all the tasks you want properly.

It is a modern and easy-to-use tool (after a while) that allows you to make dynamic and trained presentations without the need to be an expert user. It has allowed me to improve the attention and motivational processes of my students. In addition, it has many [community users] who make videos and teach the many uses that you can use Prezi. And because, despite the restrictions of the free version, everyone can access and make use of Prezi and thus improve their boring ppt and inject some vitality into them.

Alternatives Considered
If you want to create presentations more often, Prezi and Canva or not even options, both of tools take a lot of time. So the real competitor for Apple Keynote is Microsoft Powerpoint. For me, Powerpoint is so feature-filled that makes it a little complex. On the other hand, Apple Keynote is a very simple and elegant, and easy-to-use tool.

We also tried Powerpoint and Visio to prepare hierarchical presentations, but it was not as easy, and it was kind of difficult to edit. Prezi provided built-in zoom-pan animation, which made it easier. Also, there were many samples from the Prezi community that one could learn from. Finally, Prezi Classic was free and there was not any limitation in using the free version.

Return on Investment
  • Improved efficiency since my presentations are quick to update
  • Improved efficacy since the UI makes creating attractive presentations easy to create
  • There have been a few occasions when I need to convert my files to PowerPoint when using virtual conference platforms since Keynote is not as ubiquitous

  • Prezi is really a sunk cost for us. The positive is to stand out when other organizations are presenting in a more traditional way
  • Ability to explain complex concepts is a plus
  • Instant save of work and access through the cloud is another very positive aspect which makes the paid version worth it
