NAKIVO Backup & Replication vs. Veritas NetBackup

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is well suited for a variety of scenarios. For organizations with exclusively physical infrastructure and no virtualized environments, the full range of NAKIVO's features may not be utilized to its fullest potential. Similarly, companies with limited data storage requirements may not fully benefit from NAKIVO's deduplication and compression capabilities.

Backuping complex infrastructures (VMware ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, Oracle, and MSSQL databases, etc.). Regarding product price, it's not the most affordable for small businesses, but it can handle nearly all infrastructures and systems. With good training people, it's a Swiss knife of company data backup, no stress about keeping backups in a safe place!

• Can be installed natively on nas appliances leveraging the use of underutilized appliances. No need to install the software on Windows or Linux Servers.
• Backup natively Vmware Virtual Machines and File Shares (you need to buy the right license modules).
• Destination storage for backups (or of the backup copies) can be Microsoft shares, Amazon S3, Wasabi, Backblaze and remotely to other sites using their transporter vm.
• To not overload the system with overlapping jobs, they can be chained one after the other.
• Rapid add/remove/reorder priority of vm to backup and their backup archive. Jobs can be easily changed or chained.

• The activity monitor allows me to easily see if there are issues with backup jobs or the environment.
• Community support for NBU is very good. I've been able to research issues with ease and find other users that have been in similar situations.
• Policy management for backups is very easy and there are lots of options.

• Backups have the option of "screenshot verification". Screenshot verification doesn't always work for us when our vmtools is out of date. If we are on an older version of VMware and that version of vmtools is up to date, NAKIVO still thinks it is out of date.

It is a product that contains most of the features of its big competitors but at an affordable price for small businesses. In addition, the support is very good even if they only have support in English. Another important factor is its compatibility with NAS devices, which greatly simplifies deployment. The implementation is simple and in a matter of minutes you can define the first copy Jobs

Veritas continues to keep up with the backup game. There virtual machine backup capabilities are now top notch, and I believe they will prove valuable when our cloud presence demands a backup solution.

NAKIVO Backup & Replication is very easy to set up. I did it by myself, and it went perfectly. Online documents are very well written, and also the tech support asked to help me set it up. I want to do it by myself and the setup process is very easy to do. The connection to your VM and servers is very easy to do.

NetBackup provides a complete, flexible data protection solution for a variety of platforms. The platforms include Microsoft Windows, UNIX, and Linux systems. NetBackup lets you back up, archive, and restore files, folders or directories, and volumes or partitions that reside on your computer.
During a backup or an archive, the client sends backup data across the network to a NetBackup server. The NetBackup server manages the type of storage that is specified in the backup policy. During a restore, users can browse, then select the files and directories to recover.

The support is fast and perfect. If u have any questions, you can contact the support team via mail or chat and you always get a fast answer. You can also find a lot of help in the FAQ in the help center to resolve your problems. Anytime I had to contact the support, they helped me and solved my problem.

Support is pretty good but it is split between America and outsourced companies so it is hit or miss sometimes. I have actually had to argue with the outsourced support as they sometimes have no practical experience using the software which makes troubleshooting difficult when they have no practical experience using the system.

It is very easy to do in all the formats in which it is implemented, whether as an appliance, in a windows machine, or an implementation in NAS. I only use the appliance one, but I have tried all of them in trial mode to know which one interested me more.

With competitive pricing and a comprehensive feature set including incremental backups, global deduplication, LAN-free data transfer, and built-in WAN acceleration, NAKIVO offers efficient data protection and optimized storage usage. Additionally, NAKIVO's support for VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, and Nutanix AHV further enhances its versatility. CrashPlan has the capability to sync data with a cloud storage source. This is great for a workstation where data is typically only for one user. However, Netbackup does a much better job for maintaining multiple levels of file restores for Enterprise Servers. Netbackup has a superior management console that does not rely on Cloud services in the event of an internet outage.

The pricing for VM backups is good value for money as it does not limit how many VM's per socket. This works well for smaller sites with simple backup requirements. Physical machine backup pricing would more attractive with a sliding scale based on the number of physical machines.

Veritas NetBackup is very expensive, and I think price is the main reason which some customers don't want to use this solution. The price is fair. Most people have felt this solution was somewhat expensive.
licensing model is based on the number of NetBackup clients, agents, servers, and options that NetBackup will be protecting or run on. A customer purchases the same number of licenses as the count of clients, agents, servers, and options.

• One of our contributors has permanently deleted worksheets from our file server. From Nakivo, we were able to recover all the data in less than 10 minutes.
• An authentication server was encrypted by ransomware, through NAKIVO Backup & Replication, we recover the entire server within 1 hour.

• We never experienced a significant system or data loss during the time we used NetBackup. We restored individuals files and small databases based upon user mistakes, but we never had to implement a DR plan. From that aspect, it is difficult to evaluate the ROI. Backups are a commodity service. Features are very similar across multiple tools. Once you decide to stay on-prem or move to the cloud, the list of options are narrowed. Then it becomes a matter of price.
• From an administration and support perspective, the ROI is low. Vendor technical support is not always responsive. The first two tiers of support are not knowledgeable and their typical recommendation is to read the white paper. My small team spent a lot of time troubleshooting NetBackup, often without much vendor help.
