Lucky Orange is one of the few players in the marketplace to provide real-time, live heatmaps along with navigation interactions, including at the secondary and tertiary levels. The Lucky Orange dashboard provides basic user behavioral metrics, and the user recordings allow you to get deeper insights into user behavior beyond the heatmap overlays. Also, the addition of real-time polling and chat capabilities enable you to engage with your users while they are on-page and push/promote special offers and promos, as well as survey website visitors about their experience.

Simple, easy-to-deploy accessibility that automatically scans, remediates and provides proof of compliance once the process is complete. It is ideal for people who want to make their website much more accessible and provide their users with an intuitive adjustable interface.

Pros
  • Session recordings provide detailed playbacks of how people are using your website
  • Heatmaps work well and display what people are clicking on over a range of screen sizes.
  • Pricing makes this a great entry point to understand a range of tools that you can use to understand your customers better.
  • Integrates well with other tools, from GA to Adobe Analytics to Optimizely.

  • User-friendly customisable dashboards, easy to make a dashboard from a template, or create your own, and add in whichever 'widgets' are relevant for what you are looking at
  • Flagging words to review, allowing users to check and confirm if the word is 'accepted' or is a misspelling

Cons
  • Deletes older data that we sometimes like to go back and reference. It would be nice to access an archive.
  • Sometimes we get too many recordings that are very similar to one another. Would be nice to have a filter to reduce similar recordings.

  • I don't like that there are different navigation paths to go from point A to point B. When I want to navigate to a specific place, I have more than one way to get there, which means I have to make a decision about how I want to there and I'd rather the designer make that design based on what would be most efficient for me.

The pricing options for large business are very lacking. The value of Lucky Orange doesn't really increase after your first 50,000 page visits but the service is on a sliding scale so the more traffic you have the more they charge. In addition, we got lots of useful information out of lucky orange in the beginning but after a while we knew what things needed to be fixed and are waiting on our developers to create the AB tests.

Tool has undergone numerous changes, both to function and UX/CX. Makes it less than user friendly at times. But on the other hand, that does indicate a willingness to improve the product in a continual manner - which they've done nearly year after year - but it's always a case of who moved my cheese with each new iteration.

Good, timely responses from knowledgeable support team members.

I've used support often and it has been responsive, thorough and considerate of our needs. I can get a tech right away, they understand the issue, and work with us to resolve it. Often the problem is with the site we are trying to scan, sometimes it is with their product. I appreciate that they go beyond support into continually helping us implement SiteImprove in more places with 3rd party integration.

Alternatives Considered
Lucky Orange and Hotjar are pretty similar in a lot of ways. One element that Lucky Orange definitely leads in is pricing. Much better and easily justified price points. Ultimately, it comes down to whether or not a new client has already had experience with one or the other and whether they're willing to switch to Lucky Orange if they're not already using it, based upon price.

Siteimprove provides richer features when it comes to how granular you can define policies and metrics for search engine optimization and content relevance. It is also much easier to set up and maintain the sites that you want to administer. However, pricing wise is more costly which can be a constraint for smaller organizations.

Return on Investment
  • It is hard to quantify into numbers how much their app helps us, but we know that each customer that we are able to help with the live view feature is much more likely to convert had we not been able to help them.
  • Having a live chat on its own is useful and we see an average increase of 30% in conversions when our live chat is active.

  • Siteimprove has helped bring our accessibility scores up from middling to near-perfect.
  • Siteimprove has helped reduce our broken links, style violations and misspellings.
  • Siteimprove's heatmaps have helped us make the case for enforcing best practices on the website among key stakeholders.
