Definitely the best tool for prospecting potential links and helping to clean up link profiles. It also helps you to consider other potential link opportunities that you may not have thought about. Its ability to find more links than most other tools certainly sets itself apart from most of the competition.

  • fast Google penalty recovery
  • keeps a healthy backlink profile
  • calculates the opportunity or risk of potential links that are not built yet, so you can go only after the good ones
  • gives you fresh data from 26 link sources and lets you analyze the full backlink profile. Google search console gives you only a sample of your backlink profile.

  • User-friendly customisable dashboards, easy to make a dashboard from a template, or create your own, and add in whichever 'widgets' are relevant for what you are looking at
  • Flagging words to review, allowing users to check and confirm if the word is 'accepted' or is a misspelling

Cons
  • Accessibility - the layout is not as intuitive as it should be. Of course, this is a professional tool and not meant for the faint of heart. However, the design elements could be more intuitive.
  • Redundant tools - our company utilizes several of the tools to help audit and augment our client profiles. Some of the tools may be a bit redundant. However, it's not a terribly big deal, as we just don't use those tools.
  • Limited searches for certain price points - I understand that there has to be competitive pricing especially with the level that Link Research Tools is offering. However, it would be nice to have unlimited searches.

  • I don't like that there are different navigation paths to go from point A to point B. When I want to navigate to a specific place, I have more than one way to get there, which means I have to make a decision about how I want to there and I'd rather the designer make that design based on what would be most efficient for me.

Usability

Tool has undergone numerous changes, both to function and UX/CX. Makes it less than user friendly at times. But on the other hand, that does indicate a willingness to improve the product in a continual manner - which they've done nearly year after year - but it's always a case of who moved my cheese with each new iteration.

I've used support often and it has been responsive, thorough and considerate of our needs. I can get a tech right away, they understand the issue, and work with us to resolve it. Often the problem is with the site we are trying to scan, sometimes it is with their product. I appreciate that they go beyond support into continually helping us implement SiteImprove in more places with 3rd party integration.

Alternatives Considered
Link Research Tools are the only tools that gives us the most backlinks. No other tools finds as many backlinks to the website than LRT. LRT takes Backlinks from 25 Sources, even historic Backlinks from Majestic (>5 Years). It is very important if you disavow links that you have the best view on the links and that you can have as many Backlinks as possible for your audit.

Siteimprove provides richer features when it comes to how granular you can define policies and metrics for search engine optimization and content relevance. It is also much easier to set up and maintain the sites that you want to administer. However, pricing wise is more costly which can be a constraint for smaller organizations.

Return on Investment
  • When we removed Google Manual Penalty, SEO visibility went up and we saw some sales increase
  • We now have cleaner and healthier backlink portfolio and not in danger of any radical Google interventions
  • We now know in advance which websites are good to build links on - this is not only good for traffic but for SEO visibility and at the end for sales overall
