IBM Lift vs. Quest Migration Manager & Migrator

IBM Lift is the most effective tool for migrating mass data from different on-premises applications into the cloud with high speed. I would recommend it since it offers two data migration options; Disk transfer service and cloud mass data migration, which all work perfectly well.

Dell ChangeBASE is well suited in migrating an OS to a new version, or 32/64-bit. It's also helpful when virtualizating workstations into Thin Clients for use with Citrix or other thin provisioning services.

• It extracts data from DB2 at vert fast speed
• It can resume from last left off
• The CLI is very easy to use

• OS Patch Testing - We further used this to test Microsoft's Patch Tuesday releases before we put them in production.
• Web Dashboard - The latest version added a fully customization dashboard with widgets to give you an at-a-glance view.
• Application comparability - We used this to test our Windows XP to Windows 7 migration.

• Even though it can be hectic to migrate data into the cloud with IBM Lift, the support team is free and highly knowledgeable. Also, IBM Lift is well documented in detail explaining all methods to migrate data easily.

• Initial setup can be tricky - We needed to contact support for some help.
• Prior to the latest version, there wasn't an easy way to view all of our results. The new dashboard has rectified this.

Before Implementing IBM Lift at SquareTrade, we were using AWS Database Migration Service, which was not only expensive but didn’t offer automatic rapid recovery from common issues during data migration.

Dell ChangeBASE is more costly when compared to Admin Studio, I believe the price was almost double. However, Admin Studio did not provide a comfortable level of support and we felt we were in better hands with Dell's patching schedule. Admin Studio wasn't able to answer our question on when they released software updates and how complex an upgrade would be.

• It saved us weeks of development time
• Without Lift, we may not be able to handle several billions of records data every day

• ROI was seen after 10 months of use.
