I think Gumlet is suitable for any content creator that makes videos for clients as well as for small businesses that want to host videos on their website to promote their products/services. If you want to make quick videos sharing your screen you have to do this using a different tool then export your footage and manually upload to Gumlet so it's not ideal for that
E-Commerce is a perfect example where a service like ImageKit.io, is well suited. It takes a lot of the guesswork related to browser image format support, correct image dimensions for every kind of device, away from the developer. Thus reducing the need for maintaining code ourselves to check for and deliver an image for every user and his specific browser. This reduces code maintenance time in the long run and less custom code will ensure stability after integration for our online store running on OpenCart 3.
Automatically convert images for fast delivery based on browser support and network quality.
Well-documented integration documentation that is easy to follow when getting started with your implementation.
Easy to navigate user dashboard for setup and management of server origins and account settings. The usage analytics page is also handy to track and fix any 404 errors there might be for an image/s.
1 is because I have purchased the lifetime offer from Appsumo, therefore does not need to renew any subscription from Gumlet, however the monthly subscription of the custom domain is makes us quite limited in terms of using 1 account to host few domains.
It is already at a very good place in terms of delivering what it is intended to do. Of course, there are always opportunities to improve. Gumlet is replacing strong video hosting services like Vimeo, YouTube, Wistia etc. so it needs to be positioned to deliver video streaming competitively to be relevant and worth recommending.
This is probably the biggest factor for Gumlet. Their support team is fantastic and always professional. Most support inquiries through their chat get answered in minutes.
Some of our clients use VimeoLivestream and find it overly complicated. Gumlet hasn't released it yet, but considering how easy it is to use their other services, I trust it will be just as easy to live stream - with the bonus of the content protection. Vimeo is overpriced for what they offer, and charge for DRM as an additional add-on on top of their industry-grade CDN. Wistia doesn't have download protection. Way too easy to download and resell content.
The main consideration for our choice was to be able to optimize and deliver the images from the server they are stored on without needing to move or change the current product upload workflow for our Marketing team. This is where ImageKit.io provided the best solution at the time we evaluated the options available in the market.
