Dell EqualLogic PS Series vs. Dell PowerVault Disk Backup and Discovery (DL, TL & ML Series)

Dell EqualLogic is well suited in a virtual environment where the ability to quickly create new volumes is important. Also, being able to back-up and restore data pools is a key factor, as well as automating your storage environment. Smaller businesses would be less suited in this scenario and would be better off with a less expensive NAS solution.

PowerVault is good for direct attached solutions such as video security, backups and tape storage. We had it as our VMWare storage but dropped it about 5 years because of lack of compatibility with VMWare. I believe it is compatible now, but I still wouldn't recommend it for large enterprise environments.

As the company initially operated on a smaller scale, we opted for Dell EqualLogic PS Series storage solutions, primarily because our data storage needs were modest. However, as the company expanded and demands grew, it became evident that the Dell EqualLogic PS Series system struggled to cope with the demands of enterprise-level applications. This instability posed significant challenges to our operations. Consequently, we made the strategic decision to relegate the EqualLogic storage to non-production environments. While it served adequately in smaller capacities, its limitations became increasingly apparent as our organization evolved, prompting the transition to more robust storage solutions better suited to our growing needs

• Dell after support very good. Disk failures are dealt with quickly
• Management of the units and ease
