Identity Protection is well suited for organizations that need to be monitor AD/Entra for suspicious activity. During a Penetration Test our MDR didn't alert on some odd protocol implementations, but ITDR did. It is also simple to setup for MFA on RDP as well. There are other solutions for it, but found I got more out of ITDR than I did from Duo. ITDR is less suited for smaller organizations since it has a 250-seat minimum. They should lower it to at least 100.

It is brilliant for use as an identity and access management tool and ensures the safeguarding of our systems and upholds data integrity as a consequence. It was very easy to set up and apart from a straightforward installation, we have found customisation and configuration easy. It was easy to deploy in the cloud after using it previously on premises.

Pros
  • The MFA component has worked great when it comes to privileged accounts accessing RDP.
  • We wanted to stop lateral movement between endpoints and with CrowdStrike Falcon Identity Protection we were able to do that.
  • Identity has done a great job at supplementing our MDR service with telemetry.

  • MFA authentication - you can verify the users using the mobile app.
  • Password repository - We don't have to remember passwords for each app; we only need one for IBM security, which then authenticates us and lets us access the app.
  • Sharing access to new users, we just create a new user in IBM and it authenticates and takes care of the user.

Cons
  • It's not really a fault of the product, but unless you have Falcon installed on all your endpoints your visibility is limited.
  • I've yet to get MFA working on CIFS and Powershell traffic.
  • The interface could be streamlined a little. CrowdStrike Falcon Identity Protection keeps changing where things are.

  • It was a bit overwhelming to implement and was neither obvious nor user-friendly.
  • While the product is quite powerful, the documentation left something to be desired if one wants to fully appreciate its capabilities.
  • The cost was almost prohibitive, but it was the only product we could find that addressed all the needs of our organization in one place.

It works flawlessly, i have never faced any major issues with this. It has all the features such as Iam and security management. I think its a good investment and the benefits we reap from this software are worth the price.

Usability
While the product is solid, I do find there are an excessive number of sections you can navigate to. It takes some time getting used to, but it is a very powerful product. It's not something you'll master right off the bat.

While setup and implementation takes work and time, the flexibility and possibilities make up for that in the long run. This is not a product you can just install and run, but if you design and implement your ruleset well, it will save you a lot of work afterwards. Just make sure that the systems you want to use it for have an existing and proven connector.

Throughout the system testing we conducted, we never encountered an issue that wasn't easily solvable. We did find some of the documentation confusing at times, but we overcame this quickly with some speedy support assistance. Implementation into production was a lot smoother following the testing we conducted.

Alternatives Considered
When comparing to Cisco Duo, I felt like the product offered more than just MFA on RDP. When comparing to Silverfort, it came down to pricing. Silverfort was double the cost and I didn't like how Silverfort had separate SKUs. If you wanted MFA on everything the cost increased dramatically.

We conducted a comparison study between IBM Verify and Okta as well as Duo Security before making our selection. IBM Verify emerged as the perfect fit because its superior capability to integrate with our current system environment surpassed competitor security solutions. IBM Verify demonstrated superior reliability through its enterprise-class scalability and fully transparent auditing mechanisms.

Return on Investment
  • Being able to see right away during a Penetration Test that the product detected anomalies, but our MDR service didn't. It allowed us to go back to the MDR service to show them the results and fix the issue from slipping through the cracks.
  • By satisfying the requirements from our insurance provider, our premiums didn't go up (MFA on RDP).
