Nexus Dashboard is a vital tool for Cisco data center Nexus deployments, in my opinion. By utilizing multiple applications in the suite, a business can utilize orchestration, monitor services and traffic, test deployment scenarios, verify upgrade processes and readiness, etc. The capabilities of the system can allow for SAN MDS controls, traditional Nexus NXOS integration, and/or essential ACI tools

ExtremeCloud IQ is definitely best suited for a mid/large-scale business. The tools provided for what you pay for would be mostly unnecessary for a small business - the pricing also would not condone the purchase for a small business. That said, we are more of a mid-sized district, and being able to manage this system with 120 APs deployed across 10 locations has been great. I'm the only person that purchases, configures, deploys and manages everything with ExtremeCloud IQ - and it doesn't take too much time to be able to do so. I'm certainly a fan of the product!

    • GTAC support is excellent; they understand the issue and do not hesitate to help in detail.
    • The layout is very intuitive and easy to use, especially the templating of switch port types. It makes it simple to use context-based names so the purpose of the port can be understood.
    • The auto channel selection now works very well, including the SDR dual 5GHz mode.

    Cons
    Cisco
    • With the latest version release of Cisco Nexus Dashboard to version 3.0.1 I can say that most of the features have already improved but one of the wishlists that I want for ND is the possibility of extracting lists of Anomaly.
    • Include older versions of Firmware in the list of choices when doing the firmware upgrade analysis, currently only the recommended is in the list of choices.
    • If possible, include all the prechecks in the Firmware pre-upgrade analysis same in the script provided by Cisco.

    • Client Data polling interval needs to be quicker, 10 minutes.
    • Full feature parity of switch management in XIQ.

    Usability
    Cisco
For the end user, it is relatively easy to use. However, some training and practice is a must because the NSO is not as straightforward as the traditional router CLI. For the administrator, Cisco Network Service Orchestrator (NSO) is just like another program running on the Linux system--there is no big difference.

Being a web platform, it is very easily accessible. The user interface is very simple, intuitive, and visually well-designed. The learning to use it was very quick and can be done even without specific user manuals. Access to the analytics and troubleshooting tools is also extremely intuitive and very well-crafted.

For us, it's not yet a single pane of glass for the ACI network as Network Assurance Engine is not yet integrated into the [Cisco] Nexus Dashboard. This will be the case after the next update we plan to do. Today it's a tool I use daily to figure out if something unusual or unexpected happened in the SDN part of our network. The legacy network is still monitored with different tools.

The Cisco Nexus Series switches perform admirably in our blended distributed system. We have been dealing with any of these sorts of switches for over 5 years and have been exceptionally happy with their functionality. Several of our other computer networks in our data rooms have proved effective with Cisco equipment. Because of the simplicity of maintenance and the high quality of technical support provided by Cisco representatives, there is a high level of trust in these switches.

    • It has been referred to as "invisible IT" because the number of support tickets to the IT desk has been reduced to practically none.
    • An IT team no longer desires ongoing WiFi support agreements, as once it is set up well, they do not need to contact us for higher-tier support.
