Carbonite Information Archiving vs. Metalogix Archive Manager

Archiving is almost exactly what I'm looking for in a solution, especially now that it's fully rolled out to our users. The one pain point is the initial setup of the archive, which is a little lacking. Some archiving solutions simply need an administrator account to thread all of the old data in the inboxes. For Zix Information Archiving (ZixArchive), I must manually export a PST and send it to Zix Support for upload. I'd like to have users' entire mailboxes automatically uploaded into the archiver without several fairly time-consuming steps.

MAM does email archiving, indexing and retrieval extremely well, and at a better price point than some of the bigger name competitors.

• Email archiving and retrieval - leaves a stub in the users mailbox so they can still see and retrieve emails directly from their mail client.
• Very little admin or maintenance required from IT.
• PST Scavenging - MAM has a tool that will hun the network for rogue PSTs, and import same into MAM so the PST can be deleted.
• The Metalogix team are one of the best support teams we've ever dealt with.
• Prompt, knowledgeable and friendly.

• Download a copy of a message instead of just delivering from within the individual message
• Integration of archive into other features (e.g., threat protection/tools)--the ability to get to the archiver's copy of the message would be nice

• Archive Manager has a very steep learning curve. In some areas it seems unnecessarily complicated. You can either spend a great deal of time reading the never ending documentation or pay for their installation services.
• Metalogix was recently acquired by Quest. Since this transition, their support had greatly gone downhill. The last couple of times I have opened a ticket I have been asked for a service tag. Metalogix products do not have service tags and the front level techs seem to be unaware of this.

Customer support is great and I will typically work with the same representative every time. He is very knowledgeable in the product and has been with Metalogix for a long time. I am concerned how the acquisition from Quest will affect this. It seems like their pool of knowledgeable support representatives is small.

Archive Manager is hardware agnostic where some others require a hardware appliance and licensing was a much lower cost for us.

• Allows for recovery of data easily.

• Archive Manager has saved me from having to buy more expensive storage. I am able to save archived files to much less expensive hardware.
• Exchange server performance is improved since messages are replaced by shortcuts resulting in much smaller databases.
