Jekyll is an open source static site generator useful as a blog publishing system.
It's well suited for a beginner who is starting a blog and doesn't have much budget, and just wants to try it out. Blogger is the best platform to use. It's very easy, and I used it for a few years too and made many blogs using it.
Jekyll is well suited for users who would like to have all content within source control (Git) along with the code used to produce the website. Because everything it produces is static assets (HTML, CSS, etc.), sites created with Jekyll are super fast, with very little needed on the server side of things. There are also a few really great free solutions for deploying and serving Jekyll websites. Jekyll will be tough to maintain for users who are not web developers, comfortable using Git to update content. There are 3rd party solutions for maintaining Jekyll-based sites without having to touch the code, but this will cost extra money. Also, because there is no server-side language, you will need to look elsewhere to handle things like contact forms.
Cost - Because Blogger is free we are able to utilize it to its fullest capacity all while paying nothing!
User friendly - As I previously stated, we are able to post and reach vast amounts of people in a short amount of time because the interface is so easy and user friendly!
This goes along with user-friendly, but it is amazing how you do not need any coding experience to have a professional looking page.
When comments are as the author of the post when you post a comment back it should be more threaded and either a symbol or icon should designate the poster. It is hard to determine who the poster is compared to who left a post.
As a company that uses the blog for our agents, it would be nice if they would allow custom ads to be run.
It would be nice if they would add a chat feauture within the blog so that if a poster would like to chat with us they would be able to.
Straight out of the box, Jekyll lacks a friendly WordPress-style back-end. You'll be working in Liquid (HTML), Sass (CSS), and Markdown (content) files. If you're already comfortable with these languages, you'll feel at home in no time. If not, you may need to consider getting someone else's expertise to set up the site, and then use another back-end (probably paid) to make editing your site's files less intimidating.
If you use GitHub Pages for the free hosting, be forewarned that GitHub only white lists a few plugins for their own compilation. This usually isn't a problem (you can compile on your own computer if need be), but can be annoying at times.
I love the additional income and how great my blogs have turned out. It's given me ideas for others to build their blogs and has attained new clients for me. I make money using AdSense, how little or how much I want to make is up to me promoting my Blog.
Blogger has a simple layout with descriptive instructions when you first sign up. It can be intimidating at first but is easy to learn through simple navigation and a little trial and error
I can say that I have not had to use customer service and support for Blogger in over 2 years. It is truly easy to use a product that does not leave you with a lot of questions. The last customer service experience I had with them was very pleasant.
Have a plan written out for yourself, you can always make changes as you go. It's more difficult to build a Blog if one doesn't even know what the Blog is going to be about. It's best to plan what your Blog is going to be about and what your audience is going to be and what you want to accomplish before you start building.
I've selected Blogger due to its simple user interface and open source feature. I can make my pages within a few minutes and add them to my website quickly, unlike other software, Iike Wix or WordPress, which is more advanced and requires pre-learning to make efficient use of them. With Blogger, I can start my blog building directly without any prior knowledge and coding.
All the other CMS's I've used try to make it easy for the nontechnical user to manage a website, at the expense of adding complexity and weight to the system. Jekyll takes the exact opposite approach, eschewing all unnecessary complexity. If you know what you're doing in a code editor, Jekyll will probably feel like a breath of fresh air to you.
Blogger is free so there is no money invested, but the time invested has proven to also be positive.
Blogger has increased our reach for young adults and given us the opportunity to display more pictures and longer paragraphs that other social media sites. The interest we have accumulated since using blogger has been worth the time and effort we put into using it.
We have seen that our Blog posts have also attracted parent involvement as well as they are excited to see what ways they can help. It has given us another way to express a need in volunteers.
