    Score6.9 out of 10
N/ADell Data Protection | Encryption Enterprise Edition (DDPE) presents software-based Data Centric Encryption designed to enable IT to enforce encryption policies, whether the data resides on the system drive or external media. Designed for mixed vendor environments, it also won’t get in the way of existing IT processes for patch management and authentication. Dell acquired Credant in 2015 to supply encryption technologies. DDPE replaces the former Credant products.N/A

DDPE is great if you want very specific data encrypted and managed. It's flexible in terms of configuration but also can be quite a pain to get configured right. It requires a lot of exclusions and does not play nice with Windows Updates. Usually the client needs to be updated before updates on Windows can be installed and sometimes a new version is no where in sight. The ATP is great but also requires extensive configurations as otherwise it has way too many false positives.

    Pros
    Microsoft
    • Encrypts the entire drive and provides a high level of security.
    • In an Active Directory environment, you can set up BitLocker to automatically save keys to AD.
    • As part of Windows, no additional licensing costs.
    • Set up and configuration is relatively easy.
    • Uses TPM module to increase security.

    Cons
    Microsoft
    • Even if it's the best we tested, I think write performance could be improved. Maybe with dedicated hardware inside the TPM?
    • No integration with OS password is a shame as most others have it and it is Microsoft on Microsoft so they can probably do it better then anyone else and safer.
    • I wish they would support multiple passwords like FileVault on macOS. If it's a shared computer, you have to give the only password to Bitlocker to both users.
