BigPanda vs. TrueSight Operations Management (discontinued)

If the organization has a proper CMDB asset record then BigPanda features can be utilized to their true potential as it has alert correlation capability. The alert can be redirected to the proper support team using the auto-share feature. This wouldn't be the case where asset records are not updated and the Operations have to manually assign the alerts to support groups.

If you have a large or complex environment then this tool can be the perfect fit. From many types of OS, database, applications and web sites supported out of the box and powerful customization ability, TrueSight can manage the most complex. If you have a simple or small IT shop then this tool suite may be over-kill and not worth the complexity to set up

• Alert correlation feature helps in grouping similar alerts together
• Alert Enrichment to enhance the data after it arrives on the tool
• Integration with multiple tools
• The console is very user friendly and provides ease of administration

• Centralize all monitoring agents in one tool.
• Big catalog of monitoring types (KMs).
• Powerful event manager.

• The interface is functional and adaptable but I kind of wish it looked like its predecessor Patrol Monitor.
• It is somewhat hard to understand the integrations into the UI.
• Hoping for more metric choices.

TrueSight didn't provide many customization options. The features provided were primitive as compared to BigPanda. TrueSight was being used just for alert visibility and assignment to a proper support group from a single console. Although Moogsoft had similar features as compared to BigPanda, the user administration and ease of use were a bit complicated. BigPanda provides a much simpler user interface.

Datadog seems to have more freedom to build dashboards. They have more visualization types. However, Pulse seems to be better from a cost stand point. Pulse is able to accomplish everything we need, so no need to spend the extra cost.
