It is much faster, easier to use, has multiple scale out repositories that are immutable. Azure Backup works but it is slow when processing backups, and restoring backups. It is not flexible compared to Veeam.

While we have a big Cove Data Protection usage it is simply not able to offer the same functionality as Veeam Backup for Azure, in a case a Azure VM fails to boot due to a configuration error or faulty Windows Update we would not be able to restore it with Cove Data Protection.

Veeam allows much more flexibility in scheduling backup jobs, It also allows you to copy backups to an on prem server or another cloud if you wanted to, it also allowed you to restore Azure VMs on premise or to another cloud.

The other products we considered had higher overall costs and appeared to offer less functionality/customisation. We had also experienced reliability issues with one of the other products so did not have confidence it would provide a suitable backup and DR solution.

Azure Backup is suitable for companies of various sizes, with varying amounts of data. The cost of the investment should be thought out carefully so that there are no bad surprises with unnecessary files going to Azure Backup. The interface is friendly and easy to configure and it does not require your company to have a backup expert. It is highly recommended for companies with smaller number of servers and better if the servers are already running in an Azure environment.

For our purposes I can't particularly find any shortcomings of Veeam Backup for Azure. It has been working well for our needs for a few years now. Maybe for someone with a larger cloud footprint or more complex needs, or maybe someone who wants to be able to deploy and configure the appliance using infrastructure as code it may not be as practical.

Azure Backup is fast! Coupled with the fact that Microsoft created Azure and Windows - these two operate phenomenally together!
Administering the backups inside of Azure is a breeze. The ability to mount, restore entire backups, or recover files, has been made very easy. You do not have to download any media to recover something, you do this all in the cloud and it gets mounted in Microsoft's systems. Making this process less than a quarter of the time you would have spent with your 'other' backup solutions.

Backup vaults should ask if you want to send notifications when you first set it up, there have been a couple of times when I noticed a month later that, backup job failures were not configured to send email notifications.

Azure backup is easy to implement, accessible by using the web portal GUI, and has the ability to restore at the file level or the complete VM. We have experienced zero issues with the backup process or performing file-level restorations. We have not restored an entire VM to date.

It was so easy that you thought it wasn't working. Once you saw data and was able to recover it or do a restore with the product those beliefs in the system went to the roof. Once you get a product that does everything you want it to do, you will give it it's props.

One of the differentials of the solution is the high level of guarantee and support of the Azure Backup solution. Microsoft is a reference in a technology company with a highly trained support team and helps us with any questions or technical problems with the tool. Service is fast and efficient with trained engineers.

Azure Backup works on Azure, the most famous of the cloud systems that the whole world has switched to, which is now a very large part of the Microsoft ecosystem that we have been used to using for years. Therefore, it is less tiring to use the additional service of an infrastructure that we already use, even if it is a part of it, which can be easily integrated with existing systems, which is one of the most important issues we IT professionals pay attention to. For this reason, we wanted to swim in familiar waters instead of another brand.

Backup Exec was a very clunky application and took forever to backup to and restore from. We would backup to SSD external hard drives from a flash array, but the process still took forever to finish. Sending our data to the Azure blob storage via Veeam is a faster and more secure process than saving to the external hard drives with Backup Exec.

We have had fast recovery of documents when needed; sub 10 minutes from start of restore to complete and in the users hands
Easily a value add for backing up files outside of the given Microsoft retention period; piece of mind
Easy tool to use with minimal training required to use it and set up backups
When you do change your cloud licensing it does require manual intervention to update backup data requirements. if the business makes changes then your backup person may not know to make these changes
