I would recommend it as a tool to use in addition to other fitness/health tracking tools. I use other health apps as well (C25K, LoseIt, SleepIQ, Nike Run Club). I'd say its a tool among tools - not the end all be all tool. I do think the Apple Health Ecosystem (Apple Watch, iPhone) is unmatched.

Cons
  • I'd like see more robust tracking of foods/diet - this is a personal request - not necessarily driven by work issues, but calorie tracking would be a nice addition.
  • I find the "summary screen" to be convoluted and not compatible between other Apple Health Users - this is mainly due to differences in generations of Apple hardware.
  • I'd like to see a universal comparison of days for all metrics (Active Energy, Steps, Calories burned etc.

Alternatives Considered
I've used Garmin and Fitbit - admittedly it's been a long time and those were early generations of a product - but the Apple Health devices that are available in todays climate are far superior to those initial devices that served very limited roles (only steps tracking). The heart rate monitoring/active energy calculations/etc all blow those early devices out of the water.

Return on Investment
  • Apple Products are inherently expensive - but for the most part employees are motivated to pay for them.
  • From a business perspective, we pay for the Apple iPhones, but the Apple Watch is left to the employee
  • I think that it improves employee moral when comparing and having a healthy competition between employees.
