CloudfloorDNS is a great product, particularly if you want a reliable DNS service without breaking the bank. They support all the standard record types (A, CNAME, NS, MX, etc.) Very easy to use. They also have a way to roll back changes in case something unexpected happens. I would say if you have a small IT department and need DNS to just be a utility that you never have to think about, this is a good product for you.
We can purchase our domain through Route 53 and can be hosted for cheaper prices in AWS.
There are many number of routing policies you can go ahead with and this will come into picture when the customer satisfaction is required at most, so choose routing policy accordingly.
As usual health checks are part of DNS systems, this is also provided at cheaper rates when total process is done in Route 53 service.
Support is great; the response time is impressive and they are always able to answer questions and resolve issues promptly
They proactively monitor for threat actors and possible DDoS attacks; they automatically respond on our behalf, as well as contact us to let us know something unusual happened
I think they meet all of our needs, so not much to say here; we switched from a very well known provider to save money and have been very happy with the service
You need to know what DNS is; this is a tool built for developers who already know the technology and are just looking for a DNS management tool. The tool is very usable given that. If you're not familiar with DNS, Route53 isn't really for you and you won't find it to be very usable-- you'll need to go read the documentation, and that will start with learning what DNS is
Until today, I have never needed support to Route53 because the documentation is great. But, I have needed it for other services. And they're near perfect always. Except that they don't have Portuguese support yet and they're sometimes slow to answer (48 hours in non-critical ones, in two tickets). But usually, they're amazing!
Cloudflare is also similar in the features to Route 53. However, since we are completely hosted on the AWS cloud, we can't use Cloudflare for configuring our internal networks, and integrating with the other services. The API based integration of AWS via Terraform is another factor that allows us to automate most of our deployments and manage them programmatically
They have all the same features and customer service without the price tag. We used Dyn as our DNS provider for over a decade. We continued after the acquisition by Oracle, but decided to save a few bucks.
It takes one more thing of our list of things to manage; once it's working, we can focus on more important things
I have received calls letting me know that we might be experiencing a DDoS attack; they had already remediated the threat by throttling the traffic from that source back so it did not overwhelm resources. Had that not been sufficient, they were already ready to spin up additional virtual servers to offload some overhead and make sure that we were not impacted by the situation. They continued monitoring until things were back to normal and followed up with a call to discuss. Very good service.
