AdvancedMD is appropriate for businesses that desire carte blanche access to the data contained in their entity's database. This is a great system for companies that are data/analytics driven. Unfortunately, the main drawback of the system (inability to accurately track deposit dates of payments) is a CRUCIAL FLAW. If a business is interested in a SIMPLE monthly reconciliation to their bank account, you will struggle with AdvancedMD.

Cadence Enterprise Scheduling is well suited when an organization would like to have one EMR system. It is not appropriate when implementing only one application.

Pros
  • Detailed Aging reports very easy to follow and helpful in our business.
  • Navigation around appointment scheduler is excellent.
  • Creating custom templates with AMD convenient.
  • Best part--when system is slow, I can instantly send feedback on it, and see results soon!

  • Visual interface (GUI) that is better than most of the competition out there.
  • Integration with all other Epic modules, allowing for the entire Patient Access flow to be contained within one system.
  • More power and administrative roles are given to the users rather than the IT staff, providing easier maintenance of the product.

Cons
  • Just recently we had an incident in which none of our employees could access the training.advancemd.com training materials. After extensive trouble shooting it was determined the issue was not with the local network, PC configuration, or firewalling. The AdvanceMD support personnel were not empowered to escalate this case as it should have been. Ultimately a correction in the server configuration for the training materials cleared up the issue, but not with assistance from Tier 1 support personnel.
  • Integration with the scanners can be problematic and has been a headache. Even with the Fujitsu scanners, the best in the business, we had challenges and found that some of the Tier 1 support staff were not trained or did not have access to the necessary documentation to fix the issue. The issues were eventually resolved but not without time lost in the process.

Usability
Overall, I think ADP AdvancedMD is very user friendly and constantly improves as new releases come out.

As stated earlier, it seems to be the best out there, from a built perspective as well as a user application. While some practices feel it to be time consuming (Cadence/Prelude) together others who see the whole integration thru the Epicare and Resolute systems love it. From an IT perspective, while sometimes cumbersome to build, the end results are pleasing and satisfying. We can usually accomplish what we set out to do with the practice vision in mind.

Support Rating
I've only reached out a couple of times and after being bounced around a few times I simply asked for our internal team to look into the particular question I had. I believe they had some turnover at the time but my experience wasn't great.

EPIC has been great in their support and communication at all hours. They also openly communicate when an application TS (Technical Support) will be away and who is covering for that person. During standard non working hours - you always know what number and who to call to get resolution to issues that arise at those times

EPI webinars are most informative and not a long drawn out presentation. It also offer screen shots and practice tools.

Implementation Rating
I have been through implementation of ADP AdvancedMD at other companies and it went smoothly

Use implementation team from EPIC but know what you want and make sure that it=s what you get. You can be easily swayed by lack of knowledge on the application and therefore decisions are made that are not correct and then have to be redone. EPIC including Cadence needs a great understanding of the workflows you currently have and how they will be impacted by your build. We had a great understanding of the existing workflows in the offices, however lack of knowledge on the Cadence IT side, had a large impact on what was delivered as our implementers believed that a standard EPIC workflow would suffice and did not.

Alternatives Considered
The only benefit (which ended up being false for us) was the price point. By theory, it is capable of quite a lot, but sadly we never got that far to even be able to try it. We are just paying for a system we are 100% unable to utilize. We ended up staying with our current EHR and will reevaluate it down the road. Definitely will never seek AdvancedMD again.

From an enterprise level I would put Cadence at the top of the pack. Compared to many smaller scheduling systems there are less pages to jump through. Scheduling is straightforward and much easier to accomplish.
