Adobe Experience Platform Launch is a new "next-gen" tag management solution. Like Adobe's other tag management product, Dynamic Tag Manager, Launch is based on the acquisition of Satellite from Search Discovery in 2013. But Launch is built to facilitate a more open, integrated marketing technology stack. Launch plays nicely with Adobe and non-Adobe products. It includes an open API and a catalog of extensions (like an app store of pre-built integrations to other platforms) so that data can flow…N/A

Adobe Experience Platform Launch is a tool that comes in very handy, especially for companies that use several tools from the Adobe stack (such as Adobe Analytics, Adobe Target, Adobe Audience Manager, or Adobe Experience Platform Launch) due to the out-of-the-box connector that enables the configurator to set up the corresponding integrations with just a few clicks. It is also a great tool for integrating other non-Adobe tools and making your website more dynamic. However, for companies that do not have any other Adobe tools and that are not looking into creating triggered actions on the website interface, Adobe Experience Platform Launch might not be necessary.

If you need a single place where you can handle all the third party pixels, this is a well-suited platform. As well as if you want to keep the deployment independent from all other (and more complex) deployments driven by IT. If you need a pixel to be fired not just when the page loads, but based on user actions, you should use the events and that's pretty complex to handle.

Pros
  • Very detailed, lot's of options for customization
  • 3rd party integration , large catalogue of plugins
  • easier than the JavaScript method of implementing Adobe analytics

  • Creating new pixels is very easy, as well as organizing all of them, handling prioritization between different partners' pixels.
  • Defining the perimeters and constraints where the pixels need to be fired is a breeze.
  • Deploying the container and keeping track of all the modification is very well done.
  • The configuration of the deduplication rule is pretty flexible.

Cons
  • The right amount of video tutorials.
  • While using Luma for learning purposes, it's hard because we do not have access to edit the script at the code end. If this is shown how we can extract data while we are learning it makes people learn faster.

  • Reports. Tag Commander lacks in term of reports of what's happening. There is an additional module called Attribution Management System that gives you a lot of insights, but more basic reports to understand what has been fired will be useful.
  • Support. Tag Commander support is very low responsive. It took several days to have the first feedback and generally, it takes a lot of emails to get what you need.
  • Deduplication engine flexibility. The engine is there and it works pretty well, until you have a slightly different need. In that case you need to implement something custom in terms of implementation, reports, etc. A more flexible approach would be useful.

Usability
I give this rating because I feel like Adobe put the user first in all that they created and offer. It's such an extensive tool that provides so many options and editable features that I can get my work done perfectly. I also know that I will be able to get the help or feedback I need.

Support Rating
The support team is always quick to respond and makes a really reasonable effort to resolve issues when they arise. I am excited to see the different ways they continue to improve and support those that leverage the application. One note I would make is having dedicated training sessions routinely to discuss anything added through patch updates. This would be beneficial.

Alternatives Considered
As far as Adobe products, I've been using them for years. You can tell this is a newer product, but based on all their other technology, I believe there is much that they can do and implement in the future. I believe more people will be using this and it will become even easier to integrate in the future.

Return on Investment
  • Shaved considerable amount of time off Adobe Analytics roll out
  • Made a launch of Adobe Target viable across multiple CMS'
  • Reduced maintenance staff compared to GTM (~30% less)

  • It let us deploy new pixels/fixes to pixels independently from the IT deployment process.
  • It let us easily turn on/off and sort the pixel execution based on partners' priority, assuring better data tracking for more important partners.
  • It provides out of the box pixel implementation for tons of partners, but really often we need to rewrite the pixel from scratch as they're not up to date.
